Hi there hang in there - it does get better. First 2/3 weeks are definitely grim. I am now 6 weeks post op and feeling much more like my old self. Remember not to overdo it in the early days - try and restrain yourself as it is so easy to think you are able to do more. Thinking about you xx

Thanks Jackie! I just can't believe how unprepared I was for it ( thought I had everything covered) nice to hear though that at 6 weeks your starting to feel more like your old self after having same op as me! Xxxx

I was very unprepared as well and I think this can sometimes be a factor in the healing process. It's a major op and it definitely takes time to get over it. I've gradually come to terms with it all and got my head round things more now. Xxx

Re: Struggling with recovery

The first week is the worst. The second week you will still feel bad but able to move a bit better. week three you will feel sore and achy, but good. Each week does get better. But please rest. Task this time to pamper yourself and be pampered. You deserve it!

Re: Struggling with recovery

Your surgery is still very recent. Hang in there & be patient. It definitely gets better. Take it easy, obey the doctor's restrictions, rest & pamper yourself. I had DVH on 1/3/14 & although it was tough at first, I currently feel great. My 3rd week was when the pains became minimal & I started feeling great! Be patient, you will get there but at your own pace. Wishing you speedy recovery.

Re: Struggling with recovery

I had a TAH. The first two weeks I did pretty much nothing except go for short frequent walks, sit around reading, sewing and working on my computer, and take naps. The naps were mostly the first week, I needed them only occasionally the second week, but even when I stopped taking naps I was still turning in pretty early in the evenings.

I made slow but steady progress all the time, though. I was able to return to work (part-time desk job) with some restrictions after four weeks. Life was pretty much back to normal after eight weeks. Hang in there, it does get better!
