Pretty sure I've really truly messed up!
Okay, long post following, you've been warned. RALH, June 27, 2013, kept ovaries. Stayed overnight, typical pain first few days, the gas, problems urinating, etc. So, here's the deal, I own a restaurant, well, anything that could have gone wrong there, it did. I drove (I really thought it was okay as long as I hadn't taken a pain pill, I was wrong) 2 days after my surgery. The first two weeks, I overdid it, had plenty of help, but felt like I was lazy. I've done dishes, laundry, bathed dogs...so, my two week appt, Doc NOT happy with me at all. So, I understand I was wrong BUT here's where I'm at right now. I'll start from the top down: headache, nausea, sharp stabbing pain directly under my ribs on left side, antibiotics for bladder infection (this one not my fault, had a bad catheter) swelly belly, lower abdominal pain, vaginal pain, alternating between constipation and diarrhea, leg pain, swollen legs, ankles feet and last but not least SEVERE INSOMNIA!! I've slept 12 hours in the last 3 days. I know I've messed up, but, how bad does it really sound???

Re: Pretty sure I've really truly messed up!
There are at least two bits of good news in there. First of all, and best, your doctor knows you overdid it and has examined you. Whatever your doc says, goes. Second, many of your symptoms sound fairly normal, but perhaps are exaggerated by all your overdoing. For instance, headaches, swelly belly, lower abdominal pain, and insomnia seem to happen to most sisters whether they overdo or not. As for the other problems, please take it easy from now on. I know it's difficult to take it easy sometimes, but if you don't you could certainly do more damage. Resting now, might allow the damage you have done to heal. Hopefully you haven't yet caused adhesions to form and you won't have to have any repairs. Only time will tell. For now, put up your feet, and give your body the rest it needs to repair.

You need to rest. Recovery is a imporant thing, So you do not want to mess with that in anyway. Your body needs time to bounce back. I am sure you will be back to yourself in a few weeks, so please take it easy.

Re: Pretty sure I've really truly messed up!
I can sympathize with the feelings you are having and wanting to be up and doing things. My TAH was the 27th and I really thought I would be able to do just about anything by now, foolish me thought the doctor was just over exaggerating so I was prepared for the worst. I have internal dissolvable staples that I tore unloading the dishwasher, that has set off muscle spasms now and I feel awful! So now I am back really watching myself but can't shake that feeling like I should be up and taking care of things...even though my family all want me to let them handle it all. Those mom instincts just want to take over! Hugs going out to you tonight and prayers.

Its sad, but its like we need to be tied to our beds or else we make it worse!! I am having a really difficult time relaxing, so I will heal, when there are so many things I need to do!! The doctors need to invent a don't give a crap pill to give to us for the 3-4 weeks they expect us to TAKE IT EASY! This is torture!

Re: Pretty sure I've really truly messed up!
Okay, how do you know you tore the staples? I mean, what were your symptoms, because I'm having a lot of lower abdominal pain, so was just wondering.
This is TORTURE!! It sucks!!! My doctors nurse said it's the "curse" of the robotic surgeries, if you had external stitches you could see, you'd take it east, we can't see them, therefore, they don't exist lol
Prayers and thanks to all!!

Re: Pretty sure I've really truly messed up!
Tied to our beds! God forbid! My nurses and Dr all told me that I needed to walk as much as possible. They don't want us overdoing it, but they also don't want us laying around all day either. That can cause deep vein thrombosis or blood clots. I've also been told by a nurse that carefully walking backwards up stairs helps the incision to heal. They told me to walk a little each day and rest in between, then walk a bit more. It's a delicate balance but definitely being tied to the bed so to speak is not conducive to healing either.
