Is there bowel prep or use of gas for the open abdominal hysterectomy?

Is there a bowel prep for the open abdominal hysterectomy? If so what is it usually? I'm also wondering if the gas is used for this type of surgery?

Bowel prep is up to your surgeon, there appears to be no specific guidelines.
If you require one, you will be advised at your pre op.

GPMS is correct as each doctor has different ideas about a bowel prep. Start making a written list of questions to ask your doctor, including this one. If you do need one, you will get instructions - if not, ask for help!

Bowel prep are surgery dependent and doctor preference. Some women do them (I did) and some do not. Only do a bowel prep if asked to do one. Here is an article that may help:

There is no gas bloating the stomach with a TAH, as the abdominal cavity is open.
