nervous about surgery

Hello Hyster Sisters,

My TVH is scheduled for May 14 and I'm alittle nervous. Can anyone that has been through the surgery fill me in on what to expect both pre and post op. I'm so glad that I stumbled on this web site. It's really great.

I don't know exactly what to expect. I'm sure that the questions that I'm about to ask are crazy but here goes:

1. What do I need to bring with me to the hospital? I'm only going to be there for 1 day according to my dr.

2. How long will I'll be "off my feet" with a TVH? I have 3 children that can't seem to function without their mom (Ha Ha)

3. When they pack the vagina after surgery does it hurt? I don't handle pain very well.

4. Any advice of feelings that I have forgotten to ask please enlighten me - the closer the date gets the more nervous I seem to become. Any advise would be greatly appreicated.

ADMIN NOTE: please read the HysterSister Guidelines for posting do's and don'ts. We believe it is important to keep your posts within the proper forum for your support needs as well as our visiting members reading. Additionally, please do not cross-post (posting the same message in more than one forum). Duplicate posts will be removed.

You also might want to post this question in the post-op forum. I'm sure the girls over there that have had this same procedure wouldn't mind sharing their experiences with you. Good Luck!

since I had the TAH my experience was different but I can speak to what to bring. Bring somethng comfortable to change in to from your hospital gown if you are staying overnight ( I had surgery on wed a.m and was home fri. afternoon), - lotions, shampoo and hair dryer- they let me shower the day after surgery and I was so HAPPY to have those things with me.
I am not sure on how it feels with your type of surgery but I brought very loose and comfy clothes for the trip home and slip on shoes so Iwould not have to bend down to tie them!
good luck!!

Hi,

Bring mags, wont be able to concentrate on a book. Bring nice flavoured water for after, if you're like me, and don't like water.
Slippers, comfy nightie/jamas. Loose clothes for journey home.

Good luck!

Towels (pads?) and usual toiletries.

Check out the PreOp Hints and Articles (click here) PostOp Articles (click here) and Princess Stories (click here) for information and answers to help you get ready for surgery and what to expect after surgery. There is also an awesome resource link directory you can get to by clicking here or click Resources at the top of each page.

And the PostOp ladies are great about comoing over to PreOp to answer these types of questions, that's what the PreOp forum is for and the PostOp forum is for when you are post op and have questions.

Please be sure to read the info New Here? which can also be accessed from the top of every screen, for important information to help you get the most out of this site.

Best wishes!
