TAH Where has my appetite gone?

I've noticed over the past 2 weeks ( I had my tvh almost 3 weeks ago) that my sense of taste and appetite have gone haywire. I'm rarely hungry, and when I do get hungry the food I try to eat doesnt taste right. Is anyone else experiencing this? This change in eating habits has me concerned that I'm not getting the proper nutrition I need to properly heal.

My food didn't taste funny. I did however lose my appetite for a good month or so following surgery. I ate alot of yogurt, cottage cheese with pineapple and peanut butter on crackers. If it doesn't improve in the next couple of weeks bring it to your Dr. attention. Good luck

I had the same problem but I made myself eat. Even if it was a little bit but very often. You will be back to normal soon.

Omg! I'm so glad I'm not alone in this. I'm 7 days post op and all food smells and tastes funny to me too. I however been eating yogurt w fresh berries. That seems to be the only thing that docent make me want to blah!

OMG! Same here! I used to LOVE the taste of pepsi but every since my surgery it tastes awful!

I kinda hope it doesnt come back. I needed to stop with the pop anyways, lol.

Hello! I am the opposite. Can't stop eating!!! Since my surgery Sept 29th I have gained 10 pounds! I never had an appetite. I used to have to take medication to bring on hunger.

I lost sense of taste and smell. This lasted one week post TAH. I had to force feed myslef. I remember having trouble eating 8 blueberries. I was also incredibly weak. I hated it. As days went by, I ate a little more and regained some strenght. I'm doing better now 2 and half weeks post surgery but not nearly my normal appetite. I hope to lose some weight. So far, so good.

I had the same thing happen after my TAH and ended up drinking ensure or boost when I couldn't eat. Finally at around 4-5 weeks things got better appetite wise. But at 4.5 months I am still having smell/taste issues some days and am wondering if my regular allergies are more obnoxious and keeping me more stuffy. It's very strange to find something tasting or smelling good one day and not the next. Or even stranger to not taste something at all... Anyone else with this? Ah well, the trials of healing - we'll all get better eventually!

OMG... I am only 3 days post op and I find my COKE offensive. I hope that that stays, but I have no appetite, and all food hits my stomach like a rock. Anyone else feel like that? Food hitting the belly like a rock.

I also had very little appetite for a couple of weeks after surgery and I *love* food. I am French and we live to eat, not the other way around. Anyhow, as the drugs from the surgery worked their way out of my system, my appetite came back. It just takes time.
