11 days post hysterectomy: Sticky internal flesh to flesh sensation
I had a full hysterectomy on 2/2/17 (e.g everything was removed). I've been fairly active since i came home but now I'm worried as my left hand post-ovary area (or something in that neck of the woods) is tender and there's an occasional gnawing or dull pain and i get a sensation like one part of me is sticking to another part (a bit like a bit of flesh sticking to another bit of flesh), so when i stand up i can feel it unsticking itself. Could i have a hernia there?
My right hand side is pain-free.
My next gynae meeting is on 21/2 - should i just wait for that appointment or should i see a GP. I'm not in any major pain, no discharge or anything. So is this discomfort just part of the recovery process?

Re: Sticky internal flesh to flesh sensation
I've not had that particular sensation, and I wouldn't venture a guess on whether or not it may be a hernia. However, for all of us no matter what type of surgery we had there are multiple internal incisions inside of us, not just where our organs were removed but blood vessels, ligaments and nerves. All of that needs healing. That's why we're our doctors' patients for 4-8 weeks, and why full healing takes 4-6 months (longer for some).
It may help to understand healing. We tend to think of it as the earliest scar tissue getting stronger over time, but that's not the way it happens. Instead, healing happens in stages, with the earlier scar tissue dissolves as it's replaced by newer scar tissue. It's during that time when the earlier scar tissue is dissolving that we're likely to feel twinges and zingers. It's also the time that we could tear something a bit inside.
You mention you've been fairly active, though you don't share what you've been doing. Please know that there are risks you're taking when you do too much too soon. It may not be as serious as a vaginal cuff tear, but adhesions forming now could create difficulties down the road, perhaps requiring more surgery. For Sisters who didn't receive much guidance from their doctors or hospitals, the article on Hysterectomy Restrictions is fairly comprehensive. Your top priority is to rest and heal. Getting back to daily activities will come in time.
Given that you're not yet 2 weeks post op, I'd run this by your surgeon/gyn's office first rather than your GP. It'd be better to rule out any issues related directly to your surgery - and your GP is not the specialist for your surgery. Your Gyn will know the right questions to ask to determine whether you should come in or if what you're feeling falls within the range of normal.
Meanwhile, slow down, take it easy for a few days. You've only got one chance to heal properly. So rest well, Sisters' orders!

11 days post hysterectomy: Sticky internal flesh to flesh sensation
Thank you for your reply.
Well I've been walking every day and am up to just under a mile now. I've done bits of light household duties eg light laundry, some cooking, cleaned the bathroom, put some large chunks of crystal outside for a snow moon cleansing etc . I did a full supermarket shop yesterday with two friends who pushed the trolley (although i couldnt help push it when they forgot to). Trouble is i can't help myself as i feel so alive and fit! I've been having big urges to be fit for the last year (must be a menopausal symptom) as i never had these urges in the previous 50 years and sods law the need for my hysterectomy came out of the blue (no symptoms just fast multiplying tissue cells in womb that were picked up by a by chance gynae check).
But since this new sensation im trying to be better behaved and rest more today but its hard as i live on my own.
I've got a load of sedentary tasks ive put aside to do.
Thanks

11 days post hysterectomy: Sticky internal flesh to flesh sensation
How strange - since my recent post above - it's now around 5.30am - just been to loo and found I've started to bleed! Not overly worried (or should i be??). Will see later in morning when i get up what the current state of affairs are with my sticky pain in light of this bleeding!

Re: 11 days post hysterectomy: Sticky internal flesh to flesh sensation
The truth is you're not fit at the moment, though - you're healing. Even if you're feeling great, you're healing. The relief some of us feel after our surgeries (no pain! no pressure!) can indeed be a Siren's song. And whew, after reading your activities, the bleeding is likely from overdoing it! General guideline is if you're soaking a pad in an hour, that's an emergency. It doesn't sound like you'd bled or spotted much prior to all your activities, so I agree with you: in light of the sensation AND the bleeding, even if it's not the "emergency" volume, put a call in.
This might be your wake up call to slow it down, Sister. A neighbor ended up with a second surgery after her hysterectomy - adhesions had bound and twisted her rectum. By her own admission, she dove into daily living too quickly and didn't heal properly. I wholly understand what you mean about fitness in your 50s and have my favorite workouts, but it can wait. You won't lose as much ground as you think you will.

Thank you - a wake up call in deed to slow down!
The bleeding didn't come to much luckily.
Thanks again

11 days post hysterectomy: Sticky internal flesh to flesh sensation
Just an update - after i believe i had overdone things and then felt the two sticky bits of flesh inside my left hand side ovary area, i then had a small bleed and then a day or so later everything felt fine again.
But this time round i am now just resting and walking and sleeping and not trying to be a super hero! Lesson learnt and 22 days since operation i feel physically ok in terms of wounds and insides healing nicely.
