Has anyone every been prescribed Megestrol for bleeding?

I have been bleeding since my colposcopy and biopsy on February 23rd. When I went in to my OB/Gyn yesterday
(3/14), he put me on Cephalexin, an antibiotic for infection, along with Megestrol Acetate. The Megestrol Acetate, apparently stops the bleeding, and so far, I am down to just spotting, so that is a big improvement. He would like me to take this until April 19th when I am going in for an endometrial biopsy, D&C and possible ablation. Just wondering if anyone has taken this megestrol before as it sounds like it may very likely cause weight gain.....

I have not taken Megestrol Acetate but I hope it is successful for you! If you only have to use it a short time hopefully you will not experience any issues with weight gain!

I believe there are ladies on the site who have used it so you might want to do a site search to read through their threads.

I hope you will keep us posted on how you are doing and how everything turns out next month!

Re: Has anyone every been prescribed Megestrol for bleeding?

Hi! Yes, I just filled a prescription yesterday. I have been bleeding for a month now, even on BCP's and it was starting to get heavier with more clots. I am scheduled for a hysterectomy on 4/18, so this will only be a short term thing. I took my first pill at 4:30 yesterday afternoon but so far I have not seen a change (It's 8:00 a.m. the next day now). Still bleeding pretty good so far. The dr.said it could take a day to kick in, so hopefully I will notice a change throughout the day. My understanding is that it can increase your appetite but if you're only going to be on it for 12 days, I wouldn't worry about weight gain too much in that time frame.

Good luck with everything!
