I also go Aug. 26th, I'm so glad it's almost here and over with, but getting more nervous. Everyone I've talked to that went through this said it was the best thing so I'm trying to only focus on the freedom I will regain when this is done. Best wishes to you.

Re: Hysterectomy next week (8/27) getting nervous

I was the same way before mine. The closer it got the more nervous I was. It helps to plan things that help you out after. Cooking meals and freezing them for after, making sure the house is in order. Also fun things. I did a girl's night out, also got my hair done and a pedicure the weekend before. And generally staying busy. The less time you have to think about it, the less nervous you'll be. The night before was awful for me. I wish I had asked my dr it it was okay to take a benadryl or something to help me sleep. Good luck everyone!! You'll be fine!

Re: Hysterectomy next week (8/27) getting nervous

Ladies,

Tips from a few days out: Take the pain meds they offer, right after your surgery is not the time to be superwoman and say I can handle it. I agree that planning easy meals ahead of time is of the essence. I have enlisted help from my kids each day when they get home from school. Your body will tell you if you do too much... if you feel it saying that, slow down!
The time leading up to my surgery I was stressed and upset most of the time... it was so great to wake up knowing it was over, You are almost there!

Re: Hysterectomy next week (8/27) getting nervous

Im scheduled for 8/25 (LAVH @ 12) and I am excited. I went for my preop yesterday 8/19, I had breakthrough bleeding last weekend that made up my mind. I stopped having sex because of the complications so guess what. I am ready to go back to my normal life. I pray that everyone receives their peace of mind in order to get them through. I have enjoyed my experience with my sisters this is supplying me with the strength to make it.Love yall

Re: Hysterectomy next week (8/27) getting nervous

is exactly what I felt just a year ago. I was an awful patient and postponed my surgery twice. First day or two I was sleepy, didn't read any of the books I planned, or do the scapbooking,,,,I felt too good to sit very still.

Mistpete is right on her advice, I froze some meals, including breakfast and snacks,(in foil so no cleanup) bought paper products and plenty of bottled water, juices etc. made life much easier after.

Start drinking some extra water now, walk, and add some extra fiber to let your system start to adapt. Good Luck!
