HBP with only 6 days before castle date!
Hello Ladies,
I went for my pre-op testing Monday and they said my blood pressure was at 170/105! They tested several times and it only came down a little. Did an EKG which was normal, so DR asked that I see a GP for clearance for my Tues 3/25 surgery.
I just moved to the area and had to find a GP to see me ASAP. Saw the Nurse Practictioner today. BP still about the same so she started me on medication and I'm to return Friday for a recheck!
I can't believe this, first I had to wait three months for my iron to increase, having 3 lupron injections and now this! lol I don't know how to relax to help it come down when I'm virtually on hold for my castle date.
Thanks for letting me vent! The NP was certain this medication will work in time. I sure hope so, I've already gotten all geared up and prepared for Tuesday!

HBP with only 6 days before castle date!
Hi Windy,
I'm really sorry that you are having to deal with high blood pressure right now - but also glad that it was discovered before you went in for surgery, so that it could be brought under control.
Do you think that the stress of moving and facing surgery may be part or all of the reason for the increase? You may want to see if you can find some meditation tapes, too. I have seen some earlier threads about them, and they do seem to help.
Here are a couple of threads that I found - you can do a search on the word meditation (using the search link at the upper right, above the drop-down menu) and you will find several more threads.

Please let us know how you are doing.

Bummer about the bp, but good they caught it!! I'm on meds for bp, and mine often runs 150/110, and higher if I'm in pain!! A good day is 140/90 for me. Take those meds and I'm sure you'll get that bp down in no time.

HBP with only 6 days before castle date!
Windy,
Don't feel alone. I've been having the same problem.
A week ago I went to see my GP and she put me on Triamterene/HydroChlorothiazide 1xday and although much of the swelling in my ankles has gone down, my bp is still high! I'm trying to do everything I can think of to help. My surgery is scheduled for 3/24 and I don't want to postpone it any longer.
I really suspect a lot of it has to do with our whacky hormones along with stress of course.
In the past few weeks, I have battled anemia also a sinus infection that was causing problems in my ear and causing me to have a bit of congestion and cough. I've had acid reflux. I had a bad scare about my lung xray, which ended up okay. I have a somewhat high stress job. All this after 44 days of worrying about whether I was bleeding to death and or going to have a heart attack from the anemia.
I bet your past few weeks/months have been much the same. Sheesh! No wonder we have HBP.
Let's both take some nice relaxing breaths and meditate together.
I'll be saying prayers for you and I hope you will do the same for me.
Good luck,
ConnieW
