Do I Stop Taking Vitamins Before The Surgery

I have always taken vitamins I take different ones every day, I take B complex, Cod liver Oil, Vit E, and Shark Cartilage, should I stop takine these vitamins now my surgery will be for first week in March, they say that is also good to stop taking any herbal medicine before surgery because of the anesthesia.

Talk with your doctor....I was told that there are a few different things that you shouldn't take within the 2 wks before surgery...and once of those was Vit E, another was St Johns wart, and a few others. I stopped taking my multi Vitamin 3 wks before surgery just to be on the safe side.

Great advice. Call the doc and find out what you can and can't take before surgery. I wasn't on anything but iron supplements, and they said I could (and should) continue taking them right up until the day before surgery, but some other vitamins/minerals and herbal supplements should be stopped, depending on your situation.

Yes..i would call and ask. Mine told me no vitamin E but i also take a multivitamin...and had stopped taking it when i thought i was having surgery tomorrow...(which now it is postponed) just to be on the safe side.

I also took multi-vits, along with asthma inhalers, ibuprophen therapy, and currently vicodin ES....

They told me only the asthma meds and vicodin ES for 2 weeks pre-op.

Call your doc and ask.
