What about going up and down stairs?

We have a 2-story house with master bedroom upstairs. Will I be able to go up and down stairs? The Hystersisters Guide says "no stairs."

What about going up and down stairs?

I went up and down stairs. I had no choice since my house has a lot of them. I didn't have any problems as long as I took it slow. My doctor didn't tell me I couldn't do stairs, I think it's plain common sense to do as little as possible and to take them slow. Some sisters said walking up them facing backwards helped a lot.

What about going up and down stairs?

I too had a stairs issue. My house is a 4 level split. While I don't have one big staircase, stairs are still stairs.

My dr. told me to take it slow and easy and that is exactly what I did. Up the few steps to the front door, down one step into the livingroom. Eight more steps up to my recovery area. That included my bedroom, the bathroom, kitchen, office and a sliding door to the deck in the back. I had everything I needed up there, except the ability to answer the front door.

As I started to gain strength and feel better overall, I started taking the stairs slowly. My dd was thrilled to come home from school one day, only to find me sitting in the livingroom.

That was over 7 months ago and I am long since running up and down the stairs again.

Just take it steady and slow, and for the first while, ask someone to climb the stair with you for support.

The other thing is to check with your doctor, in case they have any specific advice.

Best wishes to you

What about going up and down stairs?

I did stairs right away. What are you going to do otherwise. Just go slow and stairs will not be a biggie.
Just don't carry stuff up or down for a while.

I just don't get those who say "no stairs". May be some can't do it but some of us have to go home and are without tarzan like man to carry us up 3- flights.
Stairs were never an issue for me but I do them slow.

What about going up and down stairs?

I had a few stairs to go into my house. I went up and down them sideways until I felt better and could go up and down them normally. You use different muscles by going sideways I think.

What about going up and down stairs?

At my hospital in the UK (A BUPA one) one of the conditions for letting you go home after the operation was that you could climb up and down the hospital stairs!

What about going up and down stairs?

I had a TAH, and since my bedroom required stairs, I slept on the ground floor for a week. Was very dizzy and tired after going up or down.

What about going up and down stairs?

I asked my dr. about stairs at my pre-op appt. yesterday-- she said no problem, I should be able to handle stairs when I get home from the castle, just take it slow and easy. I'm having LAVH.

What about going up and down stairs?

I'd have been sleeping in the car if stairs were an absolute no-no, as I have to climb 15 of them to get to my place. LOL! Even with all three surgeries, the stairs weren't too bad. I'm not comfortable taking them backwards and just climbed them like small children do. Slow and steady, and one at a time.
