Anniversary day before surgery....help!

Hi! So it's my dh's and my 8th anniversary on June 5th. I have been so tied up with planning for the surgery and thinking about it and working through the emotions, that I totally haven't planned a thing! I'm just such a ball of nerves much of the time that I just feel like crying when I try to think of something inexpensive and meaningful to do for my dh.....he's been a wonderful support to me through all of this-- I just want to make our day special for him, but I don't know how to get my head out of this presurgery cloud.

Any ideas???

Thanks!!

Ellie

I agree with Lucky a letter is a good idea. But why not go out for a early lunch date! Then have a romantic walk, dance or talk on your anniversary! My DH and I have been married for 14 1/2 years and our best anniversaries have been the times that were low key. Good luck!

You could begin by going out to dinner and enjoy yourself. During the dinner you can also open your heart to him. Make sure you do have a wonderful time. Be positive and keep going. Hope all goes well for you.

Ellie,

The letter idea is a good one - a quiet dinner or walk is also good. What about a "coupon" for a romantic get-away post-op? Maybe a brochure on a bed and breakfast that you can visit in a few months? Sexy matching undies or PJ's for both of you to enjoy later? What about a gift bag full of things for him while you are in the castle? (snacks for the wait during your surgery, deck of cards, reading material)

Be creative and it will be all good - I am sure all he wants right now is for you to feel better and be healthy. I am sure he is more worried about you than your anniversary.

Hang in there - just a few more days and this will all be behind you!

I am looking forward to hearing from you when you get back home! You will be in my prayers Sister

I know exactly how you feel! Our 3rd anniversary is the day AFTER my surgery. When I realized it, I almost just cried. Not much that can be done about it, though. I think I'm going to try to just wait and celebrate it a couple of months late when I feel better. If you think of anything good, let us know so I have some ideas, too!

Hey sweet sisters!! Thanks so much for your suggestions!

Marty07-- I especially appreciate you mentioning how some of your best celebrations were "low key." Even though when I look back, I see that's true for us, I automatically think it needs to be something splendidly out of my income and ability for it to mean something to him. Ha ha!! Where do I get these ideas? Commercial America? I dunno. But you gave me a good idea...

We have a book called "The Book of Us" that asks questions about your history as a couple. We take turns filling it in and eventually, you have "both sides of the story" of your courtship, engagement, etc. I think we'll go to lunch, write in our book, and maybe go to the Temple since we haven't been for a while. Going for a walk would be great but it would also only last about 50 yards before I had to turn back!! : ) Maybe that can be a coupon (thanks Mary Beth!!)-- a one on one hike in Zion Natl Park after recovery....with a little exclusive campout. Hmmm. I like the sound o' that.

Thanks again you guys!! This is helping to get the creative side flowing and the nerves to hold on a second!!

Hate to put a pin in this, but you'll probably be fasting that day and having to do a bowel prep. Uggh, not romantic.
Celebrate today and tomorrow. If possible, ummm- well, it'd be nice for him to have something special to remember fondly and look forward to repeating (after your weeks of recovery). And after surgery, they like to know that you are also looking forward to resuming your sexual relationship. They worry that you'll not think about them that way after surgery.

See it looks as if you already have a plan for your anniversary. I must admit the idea of "A Book About Us" is a great idea!

perrita, thanks for that reminder! I'll try to eat light, but my OB isn't having me do the bowel prep or fast.....just "no eating after midnight the day before." Just the same, I've been through surgery enough to know that it pays to be careful with diet before surgery. A very responsible comment-- no pin there! : )
