Am I the only person?

Am I the only person here who DOESN'T know the doctor doing the surgery? My doctor, the great man that he is, is not a gyn and referred me to a "gyn specialist" from another town. I met him and he is ok, but he isn't MY doctor. I love my doctor and trust him, so I know he wouldn't refer me to someone he didn't like but I would be much happier if my doctor was taking care of me. Is there anything extra I should do for the pre op that I wouldn't do if my own doctor was doing it? I have read the articles for pre op and am making a list of questions to ask and requests I would like to happen, but am unsure if there is anything else I should be doing also. Thanks for any help!

Am I the only person?

My gynocologist also called in a gyno/oncologist surgeon who I had only met once before. I felt very fortunate to have a specialist on the team for my surgery. I'm sure your doctor chose somebody that will do an excellent job. I found that this website helped me more than what any doctor could tell you. I dreaded my surgery. The worse was waiting. I had mine over 4 weeks ago and I'm feeling great! Take care and good luck!

Am I the only person?

My dr referred me to an ob/gyn for additional sonograms, due to a cyst on an ovary. I felt very comfortable with my "new" dr knowing my regular dr selected him. I was with my ob/gyn through the sonograms, hysteroscopy, attempt at an ablation, and finally my TAH/LSO. As much as a I absolutely love my dr, I developed a trust and sense of security with my ob/gyn. I like to think I now have two great dr's!

I'm sure the dr you've been referred to will be great. Don't hesitate to ask any and all questions you might have.

Am I the only person?

I only met my ob once (new to the area) I like him, so not really 'knowing' him doesn't bother me.

I didn't know the dr's who delivered my kids either...just whoever was there o catch em lol.

Am I the only person?

lol still young...that was funny

My primary referred me to my gyn. and a few days later I went in for lapro to treat endo. Didn't end up happening, so here we are with hyst. I will tell you that I am happier with this doctor that i have known only a month, than any of the idiots I went to for years before this. If you trust your primary, trust his/her judgement.
Good luck.

Am I the only person?

Martie, I think it is wise to go in with a list of questions. I don't REALLY know my dr that is doing my surgery either. We have different insurance now so this is not the dr who delivered my babies. I have met her once and she seems really nice, though. And I have a list of questions to ask during my pre op appt.

Good luck and (((BIG HUGS)))

Am I the only person?

Mandm91, Try to take comfort in the fact that you are being treated the highest skilled gyn surgeon. Not all gyn surgeons have their expertise. Excellent for you! Good Luck.

Am I the only person?

Thank you all for your support!! I had never thought about it in a way that this could be better for me. I know I am going to have this done and I know it is going to be this doctor doing it......I was just in the mind set that I like MY doctor and didn't want another doctor doing it. I had never thought about that fact that he is a specialist and I am in better care. Thanks for giving me that point of view!!

Am I the only person?

My doctor is now semi-retired and no longer delivers babies or does surgeries. He referred me to another doctor who's in the same office. I met him once and will see him one more time before surgery. He was okay but I wasn't as comfortable with him as I am with my doctor. My doctor assured me though that he would assist with the surgery and it will be him I'll be seeing post-op so I guess it doesn't really matter who does the actual surgery. I didn't have a lot of questions to ask the new doctor since I'd already covered most everything in detail with my own doctor.

Am I the only person?

My GP- sent me to a gyno/surgeon who then had an oncologist on her team ( fortunately- no cancer) but during surgery they had to call in a bowel person & I still don't know who that was.

Unfortunately- I may get to know the bowel person because I saw my GP today and she's afraid the gas I've had for two weeks shows the "bowel reorganization" isn't working too well!

I'm sure that the bowel person was good because I trust the hospital but I never thought my biggest post-hyst problem would be bowel issues. I was just glad there was a specialist called in to try and unknot the bowels from the endo. So- in the end result all this prob could still be the foolish endo!!

Hopefully we fix it soon!!
