awaiting the results of my hysterectomy histology - UPDATED!

Hi

Had a full hysterectomy done by a laperoscopy on 1st September. Awaiting histology report which the consultant said there is a 1 in 3 chance they will find cancer. I had complex atypical endometrial hyperplasia and I'm am trying to be positive and think along the lined that there is a 2 in 3 chance I won't have cancer. Is anyone else facing this situation atm or can anyone share their experiences?

I feel in a strange place right now waiting for results.

Re: awaiting the results of my hysterectomy histology

I was fairly confident, as was my doctor, I didn't have cancer. But that waiting to actually hear, it is kinda scary and crazy. But my prayers are with you for the same negative results.

While I didn't have that concern on my lab report, there does seem to be a lot of "hurry up and wait" in regards to this surgery! When do you think you might learn of your results?

Update us when you can.

Re: awaiting the results of my hysterectomy histology

Frozen cross sections were done during my surgery. Doc said 95% accurate. I had an elevated ca-125 going into surgery. Pathology was available the next day so I didn't have to wait. No cancer. I'm sorry you have to wait it's nerve wracking. Going into this a good friend gave me great advice. He told me to stick to the facts and go no further. I knew about my ca-125 6 days before my surgery so my mind had me dead that day. My friends advice really helped me. I had an ovarian cyst and deep adenomyosis of the uterus. I have to repeat the blood work in 2 weeks .

Some of the "hurry up and wait" is due to the rate at which the human body heals. :-) Doctors often like to present the pathology results in person, esp. when cancer is or might be involved. Thus, many of us get our path results at our first post-op exam, usually 2-4 weeks after surgery.

For me, it was four weeks, which was a good thing because I had a two-hour bus ride to get to the appointment. It would have been quite uncomfortable to do at two weeks.

I knew I had cancer, but didn't know what stage it was at or if I'd need further treatment after surgery. Of course I was concerned about these things, but I tried to focus on healing instead. The results would be what they would be.

Laine, you used to term "consultant." If you're in the UK, I know that women there often don't have post-op appointments with their surgeons but instead are referred back to your GPs immediately after surgery. I don't know how this affects the delivery of path reports?

Hi there
Sorry for delay with reply.

My consultant said to me he would see me in 3 to 4 weeks after my surgery unless they found something then it would be sooner. It's 2 weeks today since my surgery and I've not heard from the hospital yet. Every day I don't hear from them I'm more hopeful of a good outcome. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for your message

awaiting the results of my hysterectomy histology - UPDATED!

Hi ladies. It's five weeks tomorrow since my hysterectomy. I finally got the all clear last week from the hospital. Had to call them because I hadn't heard from them after three weeks and was so worried that they may have found cancer but I'm so relieved I'm in the clear. Just wanted to share this.

Wow! That's a long time to wait. I had my hysterectomy on Sept. 30th and I just got my results ten minutes ago.
I'm happy to report I got good news, too!

That is brilliant. How quick you got your good news. I had to chase around calling the hospital a few times but got there in the end. I hope you are recovering well.

All the very best.
