Upcoming hysterectomy 9/13 Lvaf
Hello. I have surgery Tuesday and am begining to get stressed. Got into a huge fight with hubby last night to the point the big D word was brought up. I dont get why he is picking and being a jerk 2 days before surgery it hurts so much. Fortunatly my mom is coming today so care wont be an issue but emotionally I didnt need another thing and now I dont care if he is even there. Hes been this way for the last 2 weeks. Anyway glad I found this site. Im have total (less ovaries) lap vaginal assisted so out of work for a few weeks but do attend Walden University so have school work due this week hopefully I wont need much for pain meds. I did inform my teacher about ny surgery and plan to work on ny stuff today and tomorrow but how long were people in a fog i will have stuff due this week that I cant do ahead of time. Thanks and I am glad I found this group.

Re: Lvaf
For me, the brain fog lasted about a week after surgery. I attempted but could not handle working on financial and database programming projects. The second week I could, but not the first. I was only on narcotics the first couple days after surgery, but the brain fog lasted a solid week.

I should think that having major surgery would be sufficient grounds for an extension, so speak to your teacher again, and also check with the faculty. You don't need the added stress of worrying about your assignments when your main focus should be on your recovery. And I'm sorry to hear about what happened with your husband; try not to think about it, and instead concentrate on the healing process, and the support of your HysterSisters. Best wishes for a successful surgery and a smooth recovery!

Hi Skinspats -
I was in a fog for at least a week, if not a bit longer for very complex items. This is MAJOR SURGERY, and you need to think in terms of weeks and not days for recovery. I went back to work to a moderate stress desk job that required detailed work and attention (science-based job) at 3 weeks post op.
Keep in mind that you will not be able to drive for a couple of weeks, if not longer (ask your doctor), and you will not be able to lift more than 10 lbs for 6 weeks and 20 lbs for 8 weeks.
You need to discuss your situation with your teachers. Hopefully, you can postpone your work assignments until you can concentrate.
I am sorry about DH. Surgery can be stressful for everyone, and sometimes husbands have problems expressing their feelings. All they can do is lash out at you, which is very hurtful. Here is a site for him to read if he will: Mister HysterSisters.
I am glad your mom is there to help.
