Anyone else have hysterectomy at young age (me 26A)?

I have been posting on here a little and have read a lot, but I was wondering, has anyone had their hysterectomy at a young age? I am 26 and having it on May 12. I am suffering from endometriosis and have done everything possible to try to help ease the pain and bleeding (including 3 surgeries -one 6 months ago). Been dealing with it since I was 13. I am having a total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral ovary removal.....they are totally ruined due to cysts and endo on them. I am just currious if there is anyone else out there and what it was like for them. I have been told that recovery might be easier since I am younger but that dealing with the hormones and menapause will be hard probably. Also, I forgot to ask my doctor and did not think about it, but does my cervix get removed? Thank you everyone so much for reading my posts. They are helping me out a lot. I think of something new every day.

Re: Anyone else have hysterectomy at young age (me 26A)?

I also had a hysterectomy at a young age. I had mine on December 10, 2009 and at the time I was 28. I too suffered from severe endometriosis. Prior to my hysterectomy I had 7 other surgeries for my endo and ovarian cysts, including a surgery to remove one of my ovaries. My road to recovery has been a pretty difficult one. I wish that I could tell you that it was easy, but it hasn't been. I ended up having another surgery on Thursday to remove adhessions. I am hoping that this will be the last of my surgeries! I do not regret my decision to have the hysterectomy. The pain and issues that I have had since the hysterectomy suck, but they are not nearly as bad as the constant agony of dealing with endo. The one very positive thing about my surgery last week was that there was no evidence on endo, meaning the hysterectomy worked to get rid of the endo.
As far as the hormones go, it really did not take that long to get the hormones properly regulated. I am on the Vivelle dot patch, a testosterone cream, and on norethindrone acetate. I have only had to switch the doses of the patch once and the cream once. The norethindrone must be working to keep the endo away, as there was no evidence of it when I just had surgery.
There have definately been times in the past few months that I have questioned if I made the right choice. Looking back I know that even though my recovery has not been smooth, I am feeling better then before my hysterectomy. I am actually starting to feel like I might have my old life back- something that I have not had for a long time. There will be times that you get discouraged, but remember the big picture. Life without endometriosis is so much better! Good luck with everything!

Re: Anyone else have hysterectomy at young age (me 26A)?

Hi there, I am 33 and had mine on April 22, it was not a simple proceadure for me and recovery thus far has been hard, BUT I am sure in the long run it will be better for me... my life has been very limited the last year because of the sudden onset of issues so please yes consider your options and talk to as many people as you can but if this will improve your quality of life, that is the important thing you should be experiencing life to its fullest.

I'll be thinking of you!

Re: Anyone else have hysterectomy at young age (me 26A)?

Im 29 and am two days post op from a TVH with BSO and yes they took my cervix as well. Recovery is slow going and Im napping pretty much most of the day in between meals and pills. It of course doesnt help that I have a split level house bathroom everything on second floor both tvs downstairs on first floor/ den too heavy and big for us to move one to upstairs. Probably good that I have to get up and move but it is slow going. Just think about it in little steps, keep reading up there is tons of advice that made my day easier on this site. Hang in there

Re: Anyone else have hysterectomy at young age (me 26A)?

Hello there! I am 27 and will be going in for a complete LAVH in October. I also suffer from endometriosis and I have dealt with it for the last 6 years or so. I had two surgeries including one with a specialist and that didnt work either. I finally decided to have the hyst. To be honest I am very scared to do this because I am divorced and although I have a 10 year old daughter, I was hoping to meet that special one and get married an have another child but I cant continue living in so much pain. I rather be pain free and focus on the ones I love. About the cervix, if it has endo, I think they will remove it. Best of luck!! I am very thankful to have found this site for support! It's great!

Re: Anyone else have hysterectomy at young age (me 26A)?

Hi there, I am 32, also have endometriosis (Stage 4) and will be having a TAH/BSO too. My cycles have always been painful, and ever since I was twelve, I knew that they were not normal...too heavy, lasting over 2 weeks....just awful.

I had a surgery when I was only 29 to remove my right ovary, that is when they discovered the endo. Mine is really bad...uterus is stuck to bowels, left ovary is stuck to uterus, and endo is found on my liver too. Birth control pills did not help me, and I found out recently that I cannot be on estrogen because of another medical condition. Needless to say, HRT is out. Menopause will be full force. My one ovary is already failing because of the adhesions, so I'm already getting hot flashes and night sweats. My doctor is going to try to remove my cervix, but she also told me that if they cannot get all of the endo in that region, they may need to leave some of it in there, so as not to risk perforating my bowel.

Just know that you are not alone in all of this. So many women are battling with this disease. More needs to be done to come up with a cure and quick! Hang in there. Best of luck!
