how long hospital stay with TAH???

Well my DR said 3-5 days, I will take as long as they give me. I'm really getting nervous but I know I will feel much better after I heal.

A co-worker said she was off 2 weeks after TAH, but her sister who had her surgery vaginally was back at work after 2 days!!! Are we workoholics or what???

I was in the hospital for 2 days. I began working at home after 2 weeks using the laptop sitting in the recliner. I went into work for a couple of 2 hour meetings that week (week 3) and that was plenty. During week 4, I went in for a few 4-5 hour days, but I tended to crash by 3 p.m.

This week I managed a couple of 6 hour days. I think it would have impaired my recovery to have gone into the office full time after 2 weeks, and seriously compromised my healing. I think I'll be ready a week and a half from now.

My doctor said 3-4 days in the hospital and 6 - 8 weeks off from work. I am having TAH/BSO. She said she will approve as much time off as I want and 8 weeks is not unreasonable.

Sheeeesh. Now ya'll making me scared. I will go insane if I have to spend that much time at home! I love my homelife, but I'm a constantly-on-the-go kind of person. This is going to be the hardest part for me.

I had a TAH and spent two nights in the castle. I could have spent one more but I was passing all the milestones (incision fine, passing gas, catheter out and lots of urine output and no fever or complications) and had a very loud snoring roommate. I got less than two hours sleep the second night in the castle and got 9 hours with a quick break for pain meds at home.

About the recovery, we are all different. My recovery has been going well but I am almost 5 weeks out. I have been able to spend lots of time in my recliner but a straight chair hurts. So a desk job with short flexible hours and a good chair might be possible at two weeks but it would be very unusual. I took DS to the mall today ( I was only comfortable to drive at 4 weeks) and was there 1.5 hours and was exhausted and swollen when I got home. I thought the two long walks a day would have built up my endurance but I found standing up in a line at the cashier the most painful.

I don't even see my gyn until 6.5 weeks and expect to be back just after that. I have full pay and benefits here so that is not a determining factor for me. My mother formed lots of adhesions after her hysterectomy so I am being a princess and have only dusted, made salads and unloaded the top of the dishwasher so far!
Good luck with your surgery and recovery. Give everyone (like boss) the longer times eg. 8 weeks so they will be surprised to see you at 6 or 7!

I thought I had given my boss the longer time at 3 weeks! Now I just feel totally blown sideways

I had my TAH/BSO on Fri. around noon and went home Sun. morning. Took off 7 weeks off work. Did go shopping a couple weeks after surgery though and just took breaks. I still get tired & swelly belly! even now...
My friend had her surgery 2/3/06, was doing laundry a few days later and cooking dinner. She went back to work after 4 weeks part time last week, then full time this week, desk/office. I just drag behind Good luck, hope you all do well, it takes time. A lady friend in our building at work said it definitely takes a year (like they say!) and I believe it.

Well, I was "back to work" when I was 2.5 weeks post op. I have a home daycare and took one three-year old child back. I figured it was no different than women having this done and having small children of their own having to take care of them. I wish I could have taken more time, but the lack of income was really hurting. If you can afford to take it, do so. I took all three kids (3, 2, and 8 months) back at 6 weeks, but by 5 pm I am down on the couch for the night!
