Difference between C-Section & Abdominal Hysterectomy
Does anyone know if there is a reason why I feel that the Hysterectomy I had hurts more than a C-Section? I have not had a C-Section but I hear of women who have had a C-Section and they are shopping and doing housework within two weeks. I am going on my third week of recovery and I still have those sharp pains that hit you once in a while. I still can't be on my feet more than 45 min at a time withouts getting exausted. The doctor did say that I had to walk at least 30 min each day. But I'm so tired by the time I'm almost home.

Difference between C-Section & Abdominal Hysterectomy
If you have had a c-section you would know the difference. With a C they take out the baby, that grew in your uterus. With a Hysterectomy they take out the uterus that your child grew in. Both emotional operations but not for the same reasons.
As for the pain, they removed organs, there are over 1000 stiches inside of me. 3 months out I am still sitting here with swelly belly. It hurts when I pee and I can't poop. 3 months out of my c-section I was looking at my sleeping baby and not thinking their could be anything ever created that could be so beautiful.

[IHi.......I had three c-sections and with that my internal organs did not have to find new places to be...only a baby came out and my organs were glad to have the rented baby space back with this surgery a fellow organ leaves and the rest of them shift around lost for a bit...I have noticed I did better with the c sections then now with this surgery...I am four weeks and still have some "shifting" pains from time to time..but I walk almost three miles a day and am not tired until night time...hope you feel better soon hugs annie

Listen to the advice! I had a c-section too and was surprised that there were so many more limitations with a hyst. The doc told me, this is major surgery we are recovering from. Organs have been removed and other organs have shifted.About the only thing the 2 ops have in common is the dotted line they cut on!

Exactly! I asked my doc why my progress is much slower that a friend that recently had a C section. She mentioned that a lot of stuff that used to be supported by the uterus was now supported and stitched to ligaments. She mentioned how the bladder support had to be reconfigured, something about ligaments that span your abdomen and from your rectal area supporting various structures. Nerves and more blood vessels are cut. A lot of us have endometriosis which led to more cauterization. The external incision really is the only commonality.

Well I have had 4 c-secions so I have a little insight. I think they both hurt! I just think you are so busy taking care of a new born or new borns (twins) in my case that you don't have much time to think about the pain. It will get better. Don't feel bad if it takes awhile. It takes most of us awhile. Take care of yourself and good luck.

SOOOO agree w/ amurf and b52canadian...the only simililarity is the location of the incision. I've had two sections and I think the only thing that helped me from those surgeries w/ this one was to know how to work getting in/out of bed while dealing with the incision pain. Everything is all new to me and not at all experienced w/ my c-sections. With my sections I felt pretty well fine w/in a week and was even hosting dinner parties at 2 weeks. Now, here two weeks out (tomorrow) from a TAH and walking around my kids school to meet their teachers tonight was taxing. This is definitely a whole differnt ball game.

I feel a lot better to know that someone out there knows the difference. I have friends who had C-Sections and can't understand why I still get tired and am not out and about as before. I know that women who have C-Sections have the Mommy instinct that goes into effect. My tumor was over 7 inches by 5 inches. Just got the pictures of the tumor and I can't believe that I was carrying this around for so long. I am glad that I found this site and the nice people who is a part of it too. Thank you for making me understand that it was more than just a cut on the belly.
