Any advice on resuming Questran after surgery? TMI - sorry

I know it's not a common med, but taking a shot someone else has dealt with this.

I take Questran as a bile sequester. It's actually supposed to be for cholesterol, but my cholesterol is fine - I take it because since I had my gall-bladder removed 7 years ago I have had major issues with diarrhea and vomiting because of the excess bile.

This binds the bile in my small intestine and allows me to pass it without getting sick. I suffered for 7 years with the bowel issues and vomiting and finally mentioned it to my PCP and it literally changed my life. No Imodium (I was up to an average of 8 a day) and I don't start the day with violent vomiting. It's been awesome.

The thing is it makes BMs firmer, which is contraindicated when wanting to get rid of post-op constipation. When I asked the doctor she said to stop the day before my bowel cleanse and resume once I felt I was going normally. But I'm afraid of the vomiting - will the anti-nausea meds they give you after surgery work on vomiting due to bile?

One of my biggest fears is post-op vomiting - I've had it happen before and it's worse than the surgery itself. And this kind of vomiting is the really violent kind that doesn't stop even after you're empty. If it hurts normally, I can't imagine after surgery.

Anyone here on Questran for lack of gall-bladder/bile issues and did other meds work until you could get back on it?

I think the anti-nausea meds they give you work for all reasons, but I cannot be sure. Ask your doctor about this. They can also give you anti-nausea meds after surgery as well.
