TLH: Hysterectomy Scheduled_5_1_15_ What to expect?

My name is Michelle. I was referred to this site from a co-worker who had the surgery a few years ago. My fibroid is pressing against my right ureter causing swelling in my right kidney. This was causing extreme lower back pain on the right side. I had the ablation procedure 12/20/13, after issues with excessive bleeding and pain. I am having the robotic assisted laparoscopic total hysterectomy to remove the uterus, fallopian tubes, and cervix. They are putting a scope inside my ureter and bladder to make sure there is no damage from the pressure of the fibroid. I am very nervous because of the risks (bleeding, damage to bladder, etc).

Hi Michelle, I am having the same surgery on Friday and am VERY nervous. I am having the Cystoscopy and Hydro distention of my bladder to find out if I have Intersticial Cystitis. They believe they are going to find endometriosis and the IC both and are hopeful that the hysterectomy will help with the constant pain. I spent the weekend trying to prepare my house, cleaning and getting some things together for recovery. They are supposed to do mine outpatient, what about you?

My Surgery will require an overnight stay at a minimum. I cleaned my home in preparation, also. Do you have to do the bowel prep?

It's normal to be nervous about surgery. You'll be surrounded by a team of doctors and nurses who will be taking care of you and watching out for complications during your surgery.

Try to stay busy over the next few days by doing any last minute cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping; preparing and freezing some meals; getting your recovery nest ready; spending time with family; and doing some things you enjoy doing. All this busyness will help keep your mind focused on something other than worrying.

Your sisters here that have replied so far know how anxious you feel. It's a natural reaction to absorbing the news we need surgery. But please take comfort in knowlng this site offers wonderful support from others,as well as, provides great articles, videos and resources. Inside of scaring myself imagining the worst, this site helped keep me calm even though I knew I was dealing with abnormal cells.

Knowledge about what is happening will give you more confidence in yourself - which hopefully should reduce your stress.

Hmm, I can't believe they are sending me home after... The Dr did say that if I needed to stay, that was an option. I do not have any bowel prep, I called yesterday to confirm that. So now I just wait... Good luck to you!
