Upcoming hysterectomy 5/15: pain medication concerns post-op

Hi Amber,

My pain has been controlled very well. While in the hospital one week ago for my surgery, I was given oral ibuprofen & IV dilauded (plus IV Anti-nausia meds for my know nausea issues). I never did require the full dose of dilauded & ended up getting 1/2 of the allowed amount each dose because I was so comfortable. Standing & walking was surprisingly comfortable too, although my nurse made a a point of making sure I was well medicated 1 hour prior to standing for the 1st time.

Before leaving the hospital, I transitioned to oral Percoset (plus my Anti-nausia meds in oral form) & continued on the advil. I took percoset around the clock for the first few days I was home, then I just took percoset at night, & now I just take Advil, even though I still have percoset left & my Dr said he'd refill if needed. I have continued to take Advil around the clock as it keeps me comfortable & I believe it's a big part of the reason I have minimal swelling. It is reasuring knowing I have the percoset if I find I am having an achy night & need to take one.

Communicate your concerns about pain & having prescriptions for adequate amounts of pain meds to your Dr.
This way you both can plan ahead to manage your comfort level & this should help alleviate some of your concerns.

Stay brave & Keep advocating for yourself.

Ps. You might want to update the title of this thread; it says 4/15 for your surgery date, but your info listed next to your name at the top of your posts says 5/15 for your surgery date. You might get more replies if this is listed correctly. Good luck!! Wishing you a sense of calm about this.
