Re: What part of the hosptal did you stay in for your surgery?

I stayed in the Maternity Ward. It was really strange the night after my surgery. I was kind of out of it from the meds and I kept hearing babies crying. I thought I was dreaming and then when I woke up the next morning, I found out that is where I was.

Re: What part of the hosptal did you stay in for your surgery?

I stayed in what used to be a Maternity Ward,(I was there with all 3 of my children) it's only used now when the new Birthing Center is full....when I had my hyster there were a couple new Mom's there but I was at the opposite end of that floor...

I have to say where I was , was very quiet and at the age of 52I was over the baby stage.....

Maybe you can discuss with your dr. about where you'll be and if there may be an option...

Good Luck

Definately talk to your doctor about where you are going to be. I asked for the maternity floor because I work in the nursery and was most comfortable with the staff. Also, I was very comfortable with not having more children. However, if this is a concern for you absolutely discuss it with your dr.

I will be in the maternity section for my stay, but am totally okay with it. The rooms are private and very comfy.

Re: What part of the hosptal did you stay in for your surgery?

I was on a Mother/Baby Unit in a private room. The floor had many rooms and when walking around it appeared they were all private rooms. I was a little sad at times as I never had the opportunity to give birth and it was a reminder of that...but the nurses were very compassionate and knowledgeable of my condition. I actually had the same nurses for a few days and it was comforting.

Heal quickly....

I was in general surgery with mostly patients with hip replacements, etc. I think maternity would be nicer (I think).

I was put in the maternity ward for my stay. Although I have 5 daughters this still made me very sad and I wondered about the wisdom for someone in your situation to have to stay there. I was in a room all by myself and they had recently remodeled so there were no large windows displaying the babies. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I actually have not had my hyster yet, but wanted to just say that I'm sorry! I hope you are able to speak with your Dr. and see what other arrangements could be made. Good luck and stay strong!!!

Re: What part of the hosptal did you stay in for your surgery?

I was on the maternity floor for 4 days pass complete hyster. Only speaking for myself. I would have preferred to be on the surgical floor. Although my room was very nice. And some of the staff was great. But still staff wasn't always there when needed because they had to attend to the mommies and babies. Leaving me to fend for myself most of my visit. Such as running a fever the second day pass surgery and needing to use the restroom. And not able to get help when I was shaking so hard that I didn't know if could get in and out of bed on my own.

I think being on the maternity floor is an insensitive move on the part of the doctors. Knowing that regardless of whether you have had children or not. In my case maybe I took it hard because I had never experienced having children. That you can be very alone in your feelings when you are walking the halls and all the other women with their babies are celebrating with family and friends. But this is the end of child bearing for you. Or any thoughts of what could of been. Especially when your not even close to being menopausal age. I was 30.

The only thing I can say is discuss your options and concerns with your doctor. If by chance you have to stay on the maternity floor. Don't be afraid to use your support system( family and friends) to call and ask to visit. Remember no matter how much you might feel alone and don't want to be bother to the nurses. That is their job to do for you as they will be doing for the mommies on the floor. good luck and hugs.
