2 weeks post abdominal hysterectomy: Swelling and bruising

Hi had my op on 10 March. Doing really well. Had full abdominal hysterectomy. Is anyone else really bruised along wound. Saw nurse today. Said this is normal. It is bleeding slightly but nurse said no worries. The wound is swollen but no infection.

I go for my 2 week checkup tomorrow. I had the same surgery. 7 Inch incision. I haven't really looked at my incision. I know....Weird....but I'll let you know what they say tomorrow.

Re: 2 weeks post abdominal hysterectomy: Swelling and bruising

I had a pretty good bruise around the incision at my belly button and they said it was perfectly normal. Slight redness is also normal but if any kind of cloudy drainage comes out or red streaks form around the incision then you need to call your doctor. They also start itching as they are healing which is a good sign. I had to have one of my incisions cleaned out a couple of days ago because it was getting infected and one of the internal stitches was not dissolving and was protruding. I can tell you from going through it is that the pain from infection feels differently from the pain I felt up to that point in the other incisions. It throbbed until it was drained and after he poked and prodded it no longer hurts.

Re: 2 weeks post abdominal hysterectomy: Swelling and bruising

I'm at 4 weeks now. There was much bruising (purplish) above my incision site. It went away the following week.

The swelling was from the first day until now!! I don't mean a little swelling as it isn't from being bloated with gas. This swelling is like being pregnant and the area is only from below the bellybutton to above the incision site. Looks like an inflatable cushion. I do not know if anyone else has this problem. While I was advised by many here that it's called swelly belly. I really hate the way it looks because it doesn't look much different from when I still had the big fibroids inside.

Re: 2 weeks post abdominal hysterectomy: Swelling and bruising

I had a Tah and my entire abdomen was bruised. It kind of shocked the nurses but the surgeon said it happens sometimes. I bruise easily so it wasn't a shock to me. It took about 2 weeks to go away.
