3 weeks after abd. hyst, feeling good!

Hi everyone,
I had my abdominal hysterectomy on February 7th, they left one ovary so I wouldn't have to take HRT.
I am feeling fine, and am going back to work tomorrow, I'm an educational assistant.
My advice to anyone out there, is stay in your jammies for a couple of weeks, as a visual signal to your family and friends that you aren't 100 percent, so they will be more helpful with cooking and dishes, etc!
I have had heavy bleeding since I was 19, and am 45 now. It is such a relief to have no more periods, ever!
The iron supplements, and iron shots are over! I wish I had done this years ago.
My bladder issues are over, looks like the fibroid was pressing on my bladder.

Re: 3 weeks after abd. hyst, feeling good!

Hi Janet, I had my abdominal TAH Feb 2nd,I am still having some sharp stabbing pains low every now and then, I can tell when I have done too much! Great advice to stay in your jammies!! I am glad you're feeling better and are going back to work tomorrow!! I am a stay at home mom and eventhough dh and both children are helping with chores, ot's not done the way I do it lol driving me nuts, but I know They all mean well, I appreciate all of their efforts!! Is it wrong to day that I cannot wait to do housework? Lol

Janet, I agree w/ the "stay in jammies" mantra.

Also, I understand the "wanting" to do housework, as you're seeing things not being done as you would do them. I feel it too, but I'm holding off.

I'm on day 13 and listening to my body to take it easy.

Re: 3 weeks after abd. hyst, feeling good!

Janet, great news that you're feeling so good, keep it up! I must admit, I couldn't contemplate going back to work yet (I'm 2 days behind you in recovery), but this week I am starting to do some work-from-home stuff for a couple of hours each day so we'll see how that goes. Anything to stop me from being so bored!!

And Debz72, I know what you mean about the housework, our helpers mean well but bless them they just don't do it the way we want it done. Ah well, I'm turning a blind eye to things and am grateful that at least some of it gets done!

Re: 3 weeks after abd. hyst, feeling good!

I know what you mean about housework! You get to the point where you would really like to clean it properly! I have one hubby and 3 teenagers, so everyone is independent, not like having little kids!
I have had the sharp stabbing pains a bit over the past week, but they are almost gone now, I do think they're a sign of doing too much. I carry Advil in my purse at all times!
As for going back to work today, I have quite a sedentary job tutoring students while seated, otherwise, there's no way I'd go back! I didn't get bored at home, I read a lot of books, and watched a lot of TV, things I usually don't have time for.
I think this site is great, to be able to ask questions, and see what other people are going through, I'd recommend it to anyone having female surgery!
