Pre-Op Bloodwork Question

I was wondering if anyone who has already had their pre-op bloodwork done knows exactly what you are tested for? I mean, what tests do they do? I know they test things like your CBC and iron level and type your blood, but what else do they test for?

Yes, there is really a reason I need to know, but it is really a iffy topic that I do not want to talk about on the boards. (That has to be a first....)

Re: Pre-Op Bloodwork Question

I go for my pre-op 2/16. I already had my blood work done when I had my physical 1/25. It came back with my White blood count at 15. Cholesterol is high, which I'm now on meds for and my antibodies are positive for Sjorgens which I had a biopsy done last year and it was negative. I won't see my gyn until 2/16 also so I don't know what they will do???

Re: Pre-Op Bloodwork Question

I wonder the same thing. It was like 7 viles of blood. I know one of them is to see what type blood you have. But that's all I know.

Re: Pre-Op Bloodwork Question

I really did not know what kind of things they were checking for either except maybe thyroid, cholesterol, blood type.

Re: Pre-Op Bloodwork Question

I asked the gal who was taking my blood and didn't get a total answer but she did say CBC, blood type and clotting factors.

Re: Pre-Op Bloodwork Question

My doctors did blood work to check how my liver function was-i am on meds that can cause problems, also checking for any infection, as well as cholesterol and basically he said anything that would complicate surgery. Better to know before. Also checked for clotting time to make sure I didn't have a clotting problem. They checked for anything that might cause problems. I think they do this in case there is something that might cause a problem. I have had other surgeries in the past and they did the same thing. I had one where surgery was postponed due to having an infection that I didn't know I had. I had felt fine but by the time they got the blood work back, I wasn't feeling real well. Turned out I had an infection that was making me ill and would have really messed up my recovery. Hope this helps.
