1 year post-op: Nutrition? Exercise?
I would love to talk to anyone who would like to talk about their experience and how they are coping and what they are doing as far as exercise, nutrition and how you are doing. I am doing better now, but I had a hard time at first, dealing with the emotion and all the changes that came along with having a hysterectomy.

Re: 1 year post-op: Nutrition? Exercise?
I am working out with a personal trainer now and trying to stay on a 1200 calorie/day diet, but I am not losing weight.

Re: 1 year post-op: Nutrition? Exercise?
I have gained 20lbs this year and can't seem to lose it. I workout regularly and have been eating well. I'm going to go see a nutritionist to see what they can do to help me. I'm 36 and had my full hyst Sept 9th, 2011. Before all of this I had lost 125lbs on my own. This has me panicked. I was 157 mid Dec and now I'm 176. I just want to be back to 157. Ugh.

Re: 1 year post-op: Nutrition? Exercise?
I too have gained weight. After my surgery I had lost 18lbs. I was surprised and happy about the weight loss. But within the past few months I have put on about 10 lbs. The only thing I can think that might have made me gain is I have eased up a little and I have let myself have some foods that I had stayed away from, but I didn't think I had that much to cause such quick weight gain. I think I will try going back to what I was doing and see if it helps. I sure hope it helps. I hope you all will also have success in losing what you want. It is frustrating, but hang in there.

Re: 1 year post-op: Nutrition? Exercise?
I had recently put on a few pounds. I noticed my pants were all getting tighter and couldn't wear my fave pair of jean shorts as they were just too darn tight. I do have digestive issues so just chalked it up to that. I was in denial about the gain and the bloating. When I went to the doc and got on the scale I said Wake up call!
My dh has been doing lo carb so I decided to join him. What a difference! While I haven't lost much weight, my clothes are all fitting better and I finally got back into those jean shorts. I have also found that my has felt much better. I don't feel so swollen and in pain all the time.

Re: 1 year post-op: Nutrition? Exercise?
I am 12 weeks post op and have lost 40lbs so far. While I was in the hospital I lost the majority of it and when i got home I lost another 10lbs but have since put it back on. I seem to be holding steady but it scares me to think I will gain it all back and then some. I am 257lbs and at the time of my emergency hysterectomy I was recovering from a pulmonary embolism. So I am trying very hard not to gain it back. My frustration comes in where I can only do but so much due to the pain I am still experiencing. I can feel I have the energy to really workout hard but my body won't allow it. My eating is ok but I have my days hence the weight gain. I need to find a buddy in my area and I think that will help. I admire you for keeping the good fight going even after a year. It gives me hope that I can keep going as well. Thank you!

Re: 1 year post-op: Nutrition? Exercise?
I will be one year in December (DaVinci, cyctocele repair, and sling procedure).
Almost a year later I am the exact same weight (trying to lose the same 20 pounds for the last ten years. No change there).
But...not having the pressure and pain on my pelvic floor and the bladder issues has been life changing. I am back to weekly pilates class, dance class, and believe it or not I have taken up Irish step dancing. The real test was this summer when we took our family to Alaska for vacation. I went hiking on a glacier (a helicopter's ride away from any bathroom) and rock climbing, rapelling and zip lining. My hystersisters may be the only ones who can truly appreciate what an accomplishment this is. I would not have dared to do these things a year ago, one because of the discomfort during and pain after, and two because of the potential for leakage disasters. I continue to amaze myself with what I can do now that I thought I had given up forever, and new things I'm willing to try. I will say that I did nothing the first three months and took it very easy the first six months for fear of ripping something. Now despite all this activity I am not losing weight. So I feel good, but I guess I've hit that age where it is just really hard to lose.
