New To Site - need to talk

My name is Kerry. I'm 36 years old, and am scheduled for a subtotal hysterectomy on August 13th, after 10 years of pain (literally) and heartache. I've had polyps the size of tennis balls removed, and horriffic bleeding and clotting, cramping that caused me to fold in half like a book slamming shut, not to mention 8-day periods 10 days apart. Fibroids. Cysts on ovaries - I can pinpoint, within an hour or two, when I ovulate - the pain is so bad. Dr recently diagnosed Adenomyosis. I've lost many pregnancies, one of which was almost full-term.
I'm having this done, because I know it's the best thing for me - and I'm scared out of my mind. I'm scared about my job, my marriage, my kids - (can you tell I'm not one to sit down for very long?) not to mention the unknown - what's going to happen to me? I don't know anyone that's gone through this and I feel very alone. I have the feeling that I'm going to be on this site frequesntly during my recovery and would like to make some friends. I'm scared.

You've got a friend

Hi Kerry,

My name is Sharon and I am 37 w/ DH and 3 terrific kids under the age of 7 who are currently arguing in the back room! Welcome to the website. I was recently diagnosed with 2 hernias, prolapsed 2+, fibroids, and separation of my stomach muscles. It has been suggested that I have a TAV + some reconstructive work.
Yes, I was really "FREAKED" out until I found this website. I have gained so much knowledge and understanding of the different situations that I feel more in "tune" when discussing this with my Ob-Gyn.
You are not alone! There are lots of us out there and I'm sure all willing/wanting to help you through this "adventure."
Where are you located?

Talk to you soon,

S. Eidler

I am in Connecticut. Thanks for replying. My husband is a dear, but really doesn't understand the implications for me. I really needed to talk to other women. thanks! 2 weeks and counting - it's becoming very real to me now.

I understand

Kerry,

I totally understand. Might I suggest--Have your husband read some of the comments. Linda the horsewoman has a insightful description of her TAH. I go in for my ultrasound tomorrow and am hoping that they don't add anything else to my list!
Things I'm doing now--Early spring cleaning of my house--Getting rid of allot of clutter, staying outside with my kids as much as possible, and continuing to learn what all my options are for this surgery. Luckily, I have friends who are Pharm Dir/ and Anesthesiologists so they have been able to help me in the "drug" area. If you have any ?'s about this area please write me and I will forward them to my friends. They have been really helpful.
Think positive and visualize life after the hyster without any pain or discomfort.

Local friends

Kerry,

To look for local sisters--Go back to "home" page and scroll down to Sisters in the US. Once in you can find sisters that are close to you.

New To Site - need to talk

Welcome Kerry, Youv'e found the right place to talk, share fears, ask questions, and gain alot of helpful information pre & post-op.

My name is Cindy, I'm a bit older, 44, and I fortunately didn't have as many probs as you poor thing have had, but - what I learned from the sisters on this sight and reading posts from princesses that have had their specific procedures done, is to ask yourself - "do I have the type of lifestyle I want for myself right now?"

Sounds to me like you're in pain more than not in pain. Every person I personally know, including myself (14 days post-op) say "I feel soooooo much better!" And I bet your dh (darling husband) hates seeing you double over with those cramps. (I can relate to that, they were terrible!) Keep reading all the posts you can, ask ANY question you want, we are all here for you. God Bless, you are now officially a sister! (<:
