10 days post hysterectomy: Wild dreams

10 days post op and the last three nights I've been having intense and wild dreams. Has anyone else experienced this? I wasn't surprised about the dream about having a baby since I was infertile prior to hysterectomy and that was a tough ride for me throughout this journey, but the others are just freaky. I kept my ovaries and am shocked at how erratic my emotions have been.

Re: Wild dreams

Same thing here. Many have posted experiencing this. My dreams (when not suffering insomnia) ranged from the truly bizarre to extremely erotic. They are better now as I think hormones are leveling off but still not normal.

Re: Wild dreams

Thanks for your reply. I often remember my dreams but these are so vivid and strange. I hope it tapers soon. I think erotic dreams should hurt my vagina right now. I had significant tearing and lots of stitches and any semblance of excitement is painful.

Re: Wild dreams

I also had very weird and vivid dreams after my surgery. The good news is that they stopped before long!

Are you on any prescription painkillers? Codeine gives me a lot of bad weird dreams.

Re: Wild dreams

I have been off the narcotics for a while now. I've had other surgeries and been on pain killers but never dreams like this. Good thinking though! Thanks for the input.

Re: 10 days post hysterectomy: Wild dreams

I had a reoccurring dream that was extremely bizarre. I don't remember the entire dream, but Jesus, the Santa Claus from the old Coca Cola commercials, and the red and yellow M&M guys were in it. It was something about who would drive Santa's sleigh and who would drive the Coke truck in the snow. The last time I woke up and shouted, "Ok, I get it!". I do not know why I said it, but I never had that dream again. The shout wasn't loud enough to wake my roommate, but one of the nurses came rushing in to make sure I was ok. She told me the dream was most likely caused by the anesthesia. She also said that it can take several weeks for it to get completely out of my system, so having weird dreams is normal.

Thanks. Luckily they subsided after 3-4 days for this post.

This had me laughing so much I hurt myself.

It's funny now, but back then it kind of freaked me out. I think I understand the dream now: My friends were praying for me, I was craving Coke and M&Ms (wasn't allowed either for 2 weeks before, and 4 weeks after), and it was a VERY hot August, so I was wishing it was cold.
