Lupron same as Menopause??

I was just curious........I have had endometriosis for years and battled with millions of hormone drugs (i.e. lupron being one), laser surgeries, so called "natural therapies", etc. I have now opted for the TAH/BSO in January, and am going to go through a period without any HRT at all (to kill all the endo). Is there anyone out there that has done Lupron, and later on lost their ovaries and gone without HRT?? I was just wondering if it felt the same - hot flashes, etc. I actually got along pretty well on the Lupron (while I was taking it), but afterwards everything just came back - pain, bleeding, etc!! UGGHHH!! So I was thinking if menopause felt just like Lupron I should be OK (I think)!! I had a TON of hot flashes, and the mood swings didn't bother me a bit (they may have bothered DH and the guys I work with) - but didn't effect me!! (ha/ha)

I'm real nervous about the surgery - not the healing part - but the "taking a huge hunk out of my life" to recover part!! I'm one of those do EVERYTHING, organized, anal, control freaks - and can't imagine letting other people actually help me do things for a change!! That's gonna be my biggest adjustment!!!! On the other hand, I am EXCITED about getting rid of my insides and all the pain that goes with it!!

Waiting impatiently!!!!!!!!!!

Lupron same as Menopause??

Hi Murney,

While I did keep my ovaries I was on Lupron, and suffered hot flashes for almost 2 months following surgery. I never had mood swings (according to my DH, anyway!), and they have kicked back in.

I'm hoping that this will help your post get more responses to your question.

Hope this helps!

Lupron same as Menopause??

Thanks for the "bump" - it may be an unusual question thow. I don't know if there is a lot of women out there that go without hormone therapy after surgery. I may need to ask on the post-op section??? I really LOVE this website. I have been coming into it for a month just reading and absorbing what everyone has been saying - and took me until yesterday to finally register. Guess it took time for it to sink in that I am one of these women - I'm actually going to have a hysterectomy!! Still don't think it has totally sunk in yet - will probably hit me big time during the Holiday's!!!

Lupron same as Menopause??

Hi Murney,

Then you REALLY need to visit the No Hormone Desert Oasis --- this is a forum for women who can't take hormones for a variety of reasons. Go to the home page (click on the princess at the top left of the page) and scroll down .....There is a lot of information there....These ladies know a TON and they're always willing to help!

I hope this works for you!
