surgery while having period- ok or not?

My period has been rather erractic lately but all of the sudden these past 2 months it is on time and a real period, instead of the light ones I had. Is there anything negative surrounding having surgery while menstrauating? is everything more swollen? is my immune system compromised?

Also I can't even predict if it will be on time next month but given my last period was heavier than normal it usually follows with a light one. It is really hard to schedule with unpredictability. I am trying to schedule for November.

It does not matter, I was on my third day of having my period and all they told me was "it's coming out anyways" and so it happened! I still have my ovaries and cervix. Best of luck! Nunu

It doesn't matter -- if they waited until the patient wasn't bleeding to do the hyst., most women would never get in!!!

There's nothing to worry about ~ my periods were extremely heavy and I was due to start my period the day of my surgery. The surgeon had told me it happens all the time. It was such a relief to know I did not have to endure one more miserable session of heavy flow and cramping, even if it started on surgery day!

Not a problem! Your immune system should be fine, and besides, surgeons are used to dealing with blood!
