I agree with GizmoCat. My GYN also told me that I could eat whatever I wanted (yea).

The best advise I can give any Per-Op sister is to take with you a few snacks in case you just want a snack whenever. I took dried fruit and nuts. I ate them all.

However, eating after surgery has been really hard for me for some strange reason.I am beginning to wonder if it has something to do with hormones. I am just not hungry. I could go all day and not eat and just not miss it. Not good. So I have had to really listen to my body and fuel it with foods that sound good to me.

That seems to be a lot of yogurt and berries, other dairy and fruit products, and straight protein. I am still on pain meds (for a non-related GYN issue) and don't suffer from constipation.

I do however drink an huge amount of water. So perhaps that helps with the bowels.

Good luck.

Hey there!

I would just say, follow your doctor's orders upon discharge from the hospital. Given that, eat what you feel like eating, within those parimeters. You might want to be "careful" about what you eat until you become "regular" again. I didn't have a BM for 5 days post op, so I stayed on clear liquids pretty much until then (and definitely stayed away from dairy).

I had no apetite for about two weeks post op. Nothing looked good to me. (too bad this didn't last!!) Don't stock up too much right away, as I've heard this is common.

I had a lot of jello, chicken stock, apple juice, italian ice and popsicles and saltines/toast initially.

Take Care, hope this helps.

Christine

I ate whatever my body was craving. I ate (and still do) a lot of fish and steamed veggies. The only thing I noticed is that acidic foods and spicy foods were too much for me. Considering I add tobasco to EVERYTHING this was really strange for me. I went out to eat mexican and it almost killed me !My taste buds returned to normal after a couple of weeks but just eat healthy and listen to your body.
