Symphysitis - any experience / help?

Nearly two years after the op it looks like the source of my pain has been found. Waiting for MRT. An Orthopedic specialist thinks after X-ray that it might be Symphysitis. A non bacterial inflammation in the pubic bone gap. Maybe from being handled wrong during op. Does anyone else have experience with this?

I have never heard of that, but my heart goes out to you that you are still suffering pain so long after surgery. If it was me though, I would be glad to find a diagnosis. Hopefully, you will be better soon after treatment.

Thank you! Me too. I have cried so much since getting the - hopefully - diagnosis. I am so relieved it might be gone in a few months. I think it's rare - but treatable. I am excited and scared. Scared that I am so full of hope - and scared that it might not be that! Exciting times!

Sorry to hear you have been experiencing pain for so long. Just wondering if symphysitis is the same as osteitis pubis? If it is, then that is quite a common sports injury. Also, some women suffer from it during pregnancy. The things that can happen when having a hysterectomy! At least now you can receive the appropriate treatment for your condition.

Re: Symphysitis - any experience / help?

Thanks Cathy10 - I just googled osteitis pubis and it sounds like this is exactly it! I will ask my doctor. Maybe what he said is that it's rare after hysterectomy - but common otherwise.
A sports injury. No surprise the gynaecologist didn't think of it.
This hysterectomy is a massive journey. Bumpy...and I needed rest in between trying to get help. I've just learnt: never give up to try and get help. There might be someone out there able to improve our quality of life! I dare to hope :-)

Re: Symphysitis - any experience / help?

Just a quick update: I am now getting Zeel injections (homeopathic) in my pubic area close to the pelvic gap and after two sessions the pain is massively reduced. My MRT by the way showed nothing. A totally clear image. The Orthopedic specialist says it's not uncommon not to show up on MRT. Some arthritis cases never show either. But he knows it's there as I have pain when he presses down on the area - plus Zeel helps. He only wanted the MRT to be sure nothing nasty was lurking. Hooray to my older doctor who trusts his hands and experience over technology!

Re: Symphysitis - any experience / help?

Having read up on the description that sounds like the pain I have when I walk. As I am still less than 3 weeks post op and still fairly numb in the area, I was assuming that I had managed to pull or put too much pressure on something when walking or coughing and it was just part and parcel of the random aches and pains of recovery.

I have had something similar before from roller skating.

Re: Symphysitis - any experience / help?

Hello skelneth - Maybe it's the same! I think if it's recent they can help with physiotherapy.
I don't know how normal recoveries feel, all I know is that the binder didn't help me, as all I wanted was to keep everything as far away as possible from my pubic area.
But I thought that was normal due to the numbness and all that scar stuff. Later I thought it was adhesions.
This is so hard to figure out what is normal, what's just a bit slow healing! At least now you know it might be an option to explore.

What did you do to get rid of it then?

Re: Symphysitis - any experience / help?

Mostly rest, gentle stretching and a little massaging of the area as then I knew at the time I'd probably pulled/damaged something as I'd twisted as I'd fallen.
