prolapse and positive thinking
Here goes, first time I've ever posted anything on web. Having seen three doctors over 18 months about my belief I had a prolapse, all said it was normal, until one really got fed up with me and sent me to a specialist to be told I needed a hysterectomy came as a shock. Its taken me nearly a year to come to terms with it - thought of any hospitalisation or op. Anyway now booked in for January and this site helped me make the decision, allay many fears, answered many questions and posed many new ones.
I'm now thinking, this prolapse was probably there much longer.
Prolapse now a lot worse, cervix permanently visable. Short but really heavy periods, could this be due to everything crushed and, sorry, squeezed out quicker? Also retro. uterus, tampons were never an options, always fell out, worse because of prolapse? IBS for years, know I'm nervous person, but I read of going for BM, come out toilet to go straight back in again, (me, all the time) because of prolapse collapsed onto bowel wall? All of this is helping me to think positively and I can plan a holiday with a difference next year, not necessarily one with a known map of toilet facilities. I'm still terrified, taking beta blockers anyway, but having more sleep.
Thinking positively, happy holiday, new underwear, any other suggestions? Anyone else experience above, sound familiar? Great site, thank goodness for this and NHS in England and no insurance claim worries like most of you. I've rambled, but feels good.

prolapse and positive thinking
Hi Dragonflyblue
I have problems with prolapse too. Been putting surgery off for years because of work. Now that I left my business, it's time. Just scheduled my surgery for Jan 12 2004, although I hope to find out next week whether they can move it up a week earlier.
This is a great site for gathering and gleaning information...some applies to us and some doesn't. Also have been bothered by IBS for years so hope this helps with that all important BM after surgery!!! I know all the "pit stops" everywhere I go!!
Although part of that problem is with some medication I take.
I can't believe the drs had such a hard time determining the prolapse.
Hang in there, relief is in site. I've been reading all I can on this site...even checked out a surgery site that showed the actual operation.
Best wishes on your surgery!
This site is great for cheering each other on!!!

prolapse and positive thinking
I had a TVh due to fibroids and prolapse. I have a wonderful dr that actually caught it before I had major problems. I was have constipation problems and that has stopped since surgery. I've had only positive experiences-- great dr, great insurance, wonderful hospital stay, and easy recovery. Good luck.

prolapse and positive thinking
Hi dragonflyblue,
For years i knew i had a cystocele 14 years ago, but was never told to keep an eye on it. Often tampons fell out. About six months ago sex was becoming very painful...went to gyno- she looked for a few minutes and said i had a cystocele, rectocele and needed a hysterectomy... I was in shock for a week. Got a second opinion, she said same and asked me to have a urodynamic test for the integrity of my bladder. The urologist then requested to do surgery as well.
So i went in to the castle on 4th Nov for a one and a half hour surgery. When i came out they said I had prolapsed more than they thought (included an enterocele and pelvic floor repair) and that it took over 3 hours to operate...
Even though I am only two and a bit weeks out I feel so much better in many ways. I had no idea that always needing to know where the toilets are or some incontinence and bowel problems (I know this sounds gross - but i used to have a pocket where I sqeezed to help me poo) weren't normal especially after 5 kids.
They found an adenomyoma in the uterus - this caused the pain that had me visit Dr in the first place.
Good luck...hope this helps

Yep, prolapses here too.
In hindsight I think I had problems after the birth of my son 6 yrs ago but didn't know any different. Just thought things were normal after childbirth. Had my second child 14 mths ago and now everything is kaput!
I honestly don't know how some woman live with prolapse.
This past year has been a year too long.
So 11 days and counting....... so hopefully I will get my life back, Dh will get his wife back, and kids will get a Mum who can do so much more.

prolapse and positive thinking
I never knew that it wasn't normal for everyone to pee all the time everywhere they go, also never knew that straining all those years for my contipation could cause so many problems.
I also felt that something was wrong and gyn couldn't see it because it only happened when I sat or stood and when I had a pap smear done I was laying flat. It wasn't until I saw the cervix popping out that I thought "This isn't good". I went to the doctor and both she & the uro/gyn said that it had been happening over time and all my sqauts at the gym and straining didn't help matters. I tried to keep my spirits up by joking about it ("My uterus has fallen & it can't get up!") but it was devastating since I'm 36 and just got married last year.
After my uro/gym visit I found that I had more problems to deal with.
The positive of my experience is this - all my problems will be fixed, I won't have to stop in the middle of working out to pee nor will I have to "go" at every place I visit. I'm also able to have better relations with my husband no since I'm not worrying about him feeling the cervix, I'm not constipated anymore & have learned to love going every day, and last but not least..........I don't have schedule my vacations around my period anymore!

prolapse and positive thinking
I so pleased with all the ladies that responded to my posting, its made me feel sooooo much better. We dont take much time for ourselves do we and fail to notice the small declines in things. Today I just feel down because my family take me so for granted, I keep imagining myself lying on the couch after coming home from the op and everyone coming in asking me 'whats for dinner?'
Thanks again.
