Has anyone ever asked to see the parts that were removed?

I know this is probably a strange question....but did anyone ever ask to see the parts that were taken out during a hysterectomy? I am sure they would look gross and icky, but I think it would be fascinating, too, to see what was really in there. I am not sure if I am brave enough to ask my surgeon that question when I see him on Monday.

Hi kinaz,
I didn't see mine but there are some of the sisters that have and they also have pictures taken of them. If you click on some of the sisters profiles they have a place there for pictures. Right off hand I don't remember who they are but maybe they will let you know who they are.
Take care,
Debbie

Has anyone ever asked to see the parts that were removed?

I requested pictures by my doctor forgot her camera.

She made it up to me by waking me up before I went into the recovery room and showing me my uterus and one of the larger fibroids (they had to cut it into two pieces).

It was actually pretty clean looking, but plenty big.

I'm glad I did it.

I actually wanted to keep the whole thing and bury it and plant a tree (you know, how some women do with the placenta). But there are some sort of rules about that stuff (or that's what they told me).

Take care.

Thanks for the replies, glad to know that I am not the only one who has thought of this. Maybe I will get brave and ask about it.

Has anyone ever asked to see the parts that were removed?

Hi, I was curious and brought my camera in the OR and asked the staff to take pictures of it and measure it since I heard the uterus was like 17-18 weeks pregnant. Maybe they think I was a bit crazy but they had no problem doing it. I'm happy they did. It has helped me understand why I had to have this surgery. It did't look bad. The uterus was bright red and shiny.

TAH due to fibroids (uterus 14x9 cm, 480 gr. 3 fibroids 4, 5 and 6 cm) kept ovaries

I had the circulating nurse take pictures of my uterus. I discussed this with my surgeon in advance and she was ok with it. I'm use to seeing things like that I work in the OR.

Kinaz

I am planning to ask my dr. to take pictures. So...we'll be brave together on Monday! Best wishes to you for a safe surgery and a complete recovery.

I have also ask my dr. to take pics. I told him I wanted to see the thing that had caused me so much pain for so many years. Plus I like to gross out my cousin with the pics. Maybe I will have a ceremony later bidding it good ridance.............LOL

Not sure I want to see mine, but would be curious to know how much it weighs.
