Re: Scared to Death of Surgical Menopause

You are not alone. I'm having a TAH/BSO in May, and I am scared of how the menopause will be for me. I had one ovary removed 2007, and ever since then I've been going through perimenopause...have hot flashes, nightsweats, and panic attacks (not sure if this is due to menopause, or stress!!) I think my remaining ovary is also failing. There are adhesions and cysts on it.

When I had a 10cm endometrioma cyst on my ovary, the CA125 test was elevated as well. I was also worried that it was cancer, but it turned out to be endo. When I was on Marvellon birth control pills for 2 years, I had to go off of them because I developed a hormone dependent liver tumor. Again, there was a fear that it could be cancer, and it took over a year, and many tests, to diagnose what it was. Thankfully it is benign, but I cannot be on any form of estrogen ever again. So I will have to deal with the menopause in full force, no HRT. I sure hope that it is not worse than what I'm already experiencing.

Hang in there, and let us know how you're doing. HUGS!!

I will be honest with you....I had a TAH on jan. 18 and have had night sweats constantly since then. I hate them.

Re: Scared to Death of Surgical Menopause

my biggest fear was surgical menopause also... i was beyond terrified... now i'm 2 weeks post op and i am having symptoms... i have hot flashes and nightsweats and insomnia... i'm on HRT, a very low dose since i'm still breastfeeding my daughter and don't want to lose my milk. its not fun, but not nearly as bad as i thought... i've heard the first year is the worst and then it gets better...
by the way, i turned 36 just four days before my hyst... so i'm a young one too...
