Re: how long of walks at one month post op?

I've not been great at walking, had TAH 5 weeks ago. Managed to walk to my local newsagents last week, usually 5 minute walk took me 15, luckily there was a bench outside and I could sit for a bit before heading back.

Been walking around house keeping mobile much as possible but find my stomach quite uncomfortable if I walk much, feels heavy almost.

Baby steps and all that,

Good luck with your recovery, xx

Re: how long of walks at one month post op?

I did 5 km at exactly one month. Just before 6 weeks post-op, I was back to my 10 to 12 km walks daily. Now that was me and those are the walks that I did before surgery so I was in pretty good shape before the operation. You need to listen to your body and do what you can. Before 4 weeks post-op, I found I could walk some one day and then I needed a day or 2 in between to rest. Listen to your body is the best advice I can give you.

Re: how long of walks at one month post op?

I'm a little over 6 weeks post op and today had my longest walk - 20 minutes. I reckon I could even have gone a bit longer/further but didn't want to tire myself before I managed to get home. I don't think there's a "right" length of time or a "wrong" one, it's whatever you feel comfortable with. build up to it, walk a little bit further each day.

Re: how long of walks at one month post op?

I do a little light walking... around the house, grocery store & other stores, etc... but no serious heavy walking yet.

Re: how long of walks at one month post op?

I took my first real walk 2.5 weeks after my op. I meant to go around the block, but I ended up walking about a mile. I found that my incision felt the same from beginning to end, but my legs got really tired.

That week I walked every other day. Now I'm up to 1.5-2 miles pretty much every day.

Re: how long of walks at one month post op?

I know you are probably looking for a specific distance, but it will be different for everyone. It depends on the kind of surgery you had, what you were used to doing before surgery, what you have done since surgery, how well you are feeling and healing, and your doc.

My doc's philosophy is "movement is life," and he told me to walk as much as possible and do as many stairs as possible starting right away. He also said no lifting over 20 pounds at first. Walking and stairs made me feel better, but I didn't do any housework, shoveling, raking, sweeping, vacuuming, etc., and I spent lots of time doing nothing but recovering. 4 weeks post-op was actually kind of magical: I felt sooooooo much better; the transition was kind of like a light switch. Doc cleared me to go back to work 30 days post-op (law enforcement), so I was walking, running, etc. in my gear one month post-DaVinci.

Follow your doc's instructions and listen to your body.

God's blessings and good luck!
