True Confessions

This is my first time on. I had a TVH on April 12 and am getting along well. No real pain. No crying. No bleeding. And no motivation. But sleeping well and glad to have that all behind me.
I had a spinal for my surgery. And they gave me a sedative so that I slept through it totally. That was definitely the way to go. Only real complication was the terrible itching as a result of the morphine given me during the surgery. Felt like I had a rash that moved from my face, to my limbs, to my trunk. It was gone within 24 hours following surgery.
The spinal was something that I had not thought about until the anesthesiologist (you know who I mean) asked if I wanted one. I had developed a sinus infection or something just days before surgery and this was a way to prevent other complications. He very thoroughly explained it all to me and my husband and it sounded like the way to go. I'd do it that way again. If I said anything while coming to, no one told me...thank goodness.
Am planning to go to work tomorrow as I am almost out of sick days...just one left and am using it for post-op visit this Friday.
I have been reading lots of the posts and find this to be a wonderful support network. My OB-GYN was great and very informational, BUT he has never gone through this personally and I greatly value the opinions and experiences of women who have gone through it.
Thanks, sisters. (sniff. I never had a sister before!)

Hi, Dee Zee -

Glad to hear you're doing so well!! I had the same great opinion of the spinal with sedation (though I was told I was awake through most of it, which I have no memory of). Didn't experience that itching from the morphine.

Take care, and take it easy when you go back to work - you're still healing!

Cheers,

True Confessions

Ooops! Went to work today for first time. It is 17 days post-op and I am out of sick days, so I headed that way. My boss came in and asked how I felt. Then she asked if I had doctor's release and/or permission to drive! :brick: BUSTED! :burning: Little did I know I had to have that to return. It's not like I am contagious or something. And I didn't have to get doctor's excuse to be out of work. :no, no:
So, be prepared if you are off work and going back soon. You may have to produce a doctor's release for legality's sake. I drove home, took an hour and half nap and then pleaded with my doctor's nurse :nurse: to okay me going back to work. I cleaned out a closet, two cabinets and made banana bread while I was waiting for the call. I Am Woman!! :muscle: And I can go back half days to see how it goes. YaY! I can still get in my afternoon naps!
Don't forget your doctor's release!
:bgrin:

Good point

My work wouldn't have let me come back without being released by the doctor either. I had given them paperwork from him before the surgery, letting them know what it was, how long the doctor predicted I'd be out, and so on. So, legally, I had to be released to go back to work.

I really believe that half days at first is definitely the way to go back to work - you really need to ease yourself back into it. It's so much more exhausting than you think. I thought I'd be OK for full time after a week of half days, but ended up taking 3 weeks of half days. Even then it was a struggle by 5:00 Friday, but I made it.

Good luck! Enjoy your half days while you can.

Debbie
