Re: Looking for any advice almost 3 weeks post op laperscoptic hyst

I think you have to go with what your doctor has cleared you for and what your body tells you. I was released by my doctor at 2 weeks with only the admonition of no "heavy lifting" for 6 weeks and nothing in the vagina for 8 weeks. I had no other instructions and was told I needed no other post-op checks. Ugh - it really left me to figure it out for myself. But most people are having periodic post-op checks during which they are released to do certain activities as time goes on. My only advice would be to do things slowly or you may be sore and swollen at the end of the day. Otherwise, increase your activity little by little as your body seems to accept it. Good luck!

Thanks, at my two week post op appt the doc didn't release me for anything besides small walks outside, didn't recommend driving because of the muscles needed to drive but said I couldtry if I felt up to it. Did say she wanted to see me at 6 weeks post op. I have those times where I feel great and then if I do something I end up feeling drained.

Vickpo As it's already been said, you'll have to go b your doctor's orders. I've included some links to articles to those things that you have questions about. I know that you may want to exercise, but I think right now walking is the best exercise during your recovery and even when you are released, you should ease your way into things.

As for driving, you want to make sure that you're off of your pain meds and like your doctor said you may not be aware of all the muscles required for driving. My doctor released me to drive at 4 weeks and I was still a slow with it.

If you still have someone to help with the grocery and housework, Let them. This is your time to heal and you only get one time to heal right the first time. You'll have plenty of time later to do those things although it is very difficult for us to let others do things because we are such Superwomen and lets face it, nobody does it like we do. But if we just allow ourselves this time to heal, we'll get back to being the fabulous superwomen that we are soon enough
