2 post-op symptoms/concerns/questions
I have noticed 2 things that the doctor or nurses did not warn me of,and I am wondering if anyone else has experienced or knows about this. I just had my surgery yesterday.
My hands and feet are REALLY swollen today!! Even the slip-on shoes that I had taken along to wear home didn't fit my feet! So glad that the sneakers that I had worn to the hospital were still there, so that I could put them on to go home 2day. And it was really weird,,,today when I got home....for a little while my hands had even turned yellow...like jaundice,,,,and one of the fingers got tingly/numb....but within 30 minutes...it went away....but now the left hand is really puffy and swollen. ?????
ALSO......my tailbone aches....almost like a bruise. So much so that I pulled my pants down and asked my hubby if he'd look to see if there was something there! LOL Nothing noticeable he said. My mom had a hysterectomy in 2009, and when I told her about it today,,she said yes!...she felt the same thing...and even now, it still bothers her now and then. She thinks it is from how they lay you on the table to do the surgery. ??? Anyone else have this pain... and/or know what it is from????
I'm definitely going to pose these concerns/questions to my doctor when she calls tomorrow to check on me...but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced these things.

hi garden, i wouldn't wait til tomorrow, the swelling happened to me and it was an allergic reaction to the pain meds they gave me. they flushed it out wth iv fluids then gave me something else. i would call whoever is on call and see what they say tonight.
good luck

I haven't taken any pain meds since I've been home ... have been holding out till bedtime,,taking only Ibuprofen up till then.
Perhaps it's a reaction to the morphine they had me on in the hospital,, which, I'm assuming,,,now that I'm home and off the morphine, the side effect should go away.

Re: 2 post-op symptoms/concerns/questions
maybe thats what it is but i think you should call somebody to get an answer just in case its something weird?it is sooo early to push people out of the hospital that soon, i know in some ways you are safer from infections at home but i think there should be someone who knows what to look for looking after you- maybe it is from all the fluid they gave you during the op? its the yellow colour that is weird...

Re: 2 post-op symptoms/concerns/questions
I was swollen for two days, couldnt put my wedding rings back on, pee'd every 30 minutes.. I was told it was the i.v. fluids they pumped into me during and after surgery. I gained 8 lbs of water weight. As for the tingling in your hand, my nurse who started my IV hit a nerve at first and I thought I was coming out of the bed. I still have sensitivity, it's possible, if it's the hand and close to where the iv was located it could be this..? She had to relocate mine to a completely different location.
I'd call your doctor though, better safe than sorry. Hope your feeling better

I was swollen too, for a few days after because of fluids, etc. I'm still retaining water a bit apparently. I would call the doctor though, with something like that it's much better to be safe - especially since your surgery just happened and it could be a lot of things.
As for the tailbone I had a similar pain, I couldn't sit directly on my bottom without it hurting for a couple weeks.
