Ledge belly - what a great description!

I'm quite a soft member of the female race and went into surgery with a little bit of a belly. I've come out with a roll over of belly over my incision - i've just read another thread describing it as ledge belly, what a great way to describe it! It is ugly to look at without clothes, but since my husband and I are the only ones who see it like that, it doesn't really worry me too much. I'll just have to do more abdominal exercises and hopefully get rid of some of it. The interesting thing about it is that it hangs over larger and more on the right side than the left. So I have an uneven ledge belly. I wonder if this is what you get to make up for not having very much swelly belly?
Anyway, just thought I'd share that piece of odd information. Anyone else with a lopsided ledge????

Yes, I'm lopsided too! I'm 3 weeks post op tomorrow. I'm hoping that some of it will still go down some more. Like you, I'm just going to do lots of sit ups when I get the okay from Doc. I think I was probably already lopsided from my two prior C-Sections, but its funny after awhile you don't really pay that much attension to it as long as it isn't severe. Your scar will look better over time and you probably won't even pay attension to it and niether will your husband. Good luck with it!

I am growing attached to my ledge- it hangs a little lower on the left side! I had no idea I would have one post op - I just thought my normal (not flat) tummy would return so Cheryl, I will be joining you counting sit ups as soon as I can.

Ledge belly - what a great description!

I am one week post-op and just this morning noticed "the ledge", with more on the right-side! Is it too early to do some minor "pelvic tilts" or contractions as mini-exercise? The whole shape of my belly is different, and heading more south than before surgery. Had to use a mirror to see the under-ledge incision. It is a clean line, sutured inside, and healing nicely so far. It feels strange that it is numb to the touch. Trying to figure out the right amount of walking/minor activity, having just been home since Monday. Best wishes to all. I am so thankful for this site!

I never thought of that. Perhaps you are right - maybe they do it to hide the scar!!!!! Maybe that's why I got one anyway, because I wasn't supposed to have the scar in the first place.
What a funny thing it is.

Ledge Belly - what a great name for it......

I too have one.. *sigh*....! I'm hoping that it will go down quite a bit with time(I am 3 weeks post op). I'm pretty sure it wasn't that big before the surgery and am hoping that it's a bit of a swelly belly and not something that's going to be a permanent fixture.

Ledge belly - what a great description!

Morning Ladies...

No lopsided "ledge" here...just a regular ol'e plain ledge thingy going on..

I can tell ya at 1-2 week post op the belly looked great. Then for the 3-4 week, was totally different, much more swelling and very hard to get a good look at without a mirror. Im in the last couple weeks now and the swelling has went down considerably and while the ledge thing is still there, it doesnt appear to be that bad. Nothing that loosing some weight and doing some ab work wont fix. I dont antisipate the whole thing to be gone, but most.

Im still on the same restrictions from the first week, and soon as the doc says go...im going to start a work out regiment at slow pace. Cardio (sp?), ab and lower back.

For all of us "ledgers", maybe we should start a thread in the physical/excersize area for tips on reducing this thing? You know, what works for everybody...what doesnt?

Any comments?
