Re: trouble emptying bladder after TAH

Hi (((lovingme)))

I have not personally experienced this but have read several posts by women who said similar things. Hopefully some of our other sisters will be along to share their stories with you. I know that some women have luck double voiding by standing up after starting to void, then sitting back down and leaning forward to finish voiding. I hope that the rest of your recovery goes smoothly!

Re: trouble emptying bladder after TAH

lovingme,

I had my TAH (ovaries and cervix removed as well) on July 13th and the same thing happened to me. My catheter was first removed 24 hrs. after the surgery. I couldn't urinate, and the MD ordered a straight catheter just for me to be able to empty my bladder that one time. Later that afternoon, after trying unsuccessfully numerous time to empty my bladder, another catheter was put in place. That was a Tuesday, I was sent home with it and was asked to go to the urologists office that Friday.

That same day I was able to go on my own; however, I started to deal with a different problems. Besides getting a UTI, I felt like I had to go all the time. I went back to the urologist, and she gave me Vesicare, to help with the frequency. I was also taking Cypro for the UTI, but this was given by my MD few days before. I was felling better, but since last night, I've been felling the need to go quite often. I have an appointment with the urologist this Tuesday.

Anyway, I am not telling you this to frighten you, just for you to know that what you are going through has happened to others . I have read a lot of threads dealing with this issue, and apparently many women have bladder issues for a awhile after the surgery. Good Luck

Re: trouble emptying bladder after TAH

Hi,
I had a similar problem though it didn't luckily turn into an infection that needed to be treated. My doctor told me that it's as if the bladder forgets how to work. I tried altering position and that helped. I just had to remind myself that it takes the bladder awhile to realize it can let 'er flow and wait it out.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon!

Re: trouble emptying bladder after TAH

I am glad you are getting better. It ha been 4 weeks and 4 days since my surgery, and I am still having issues frequency and pain when I urinate. The urologist wants to do a cysthoscopy (they insert a tiny camera through my urethra to see the bladder), but my gynecologist is going to talk to her to see if she can postpone this procedure for another month. He thinks my bladder just needs time.
