Exhaustion and slowness

Since I came home from the hospital, about 3 or 4 days in, I have been absolutely exhausted. Simple things like having a shower, taking a walk, sweeping etc. one minute I am fine, the next I am in my bed, or on the couch, simply exhausted.

I want to go out and do stuff, but must admit that I am Leary about sitting for too long in a social setting as I tire so easily.

Anyone else?

TIA!

Re: Exhaustion and slowness

the tiredness is your bodies way to keep you resting so it can begin healing

Re: Exhaustion and slowness

You are completely normal! Your body is going through the healing process and it wants you to assist by resting!!

Re: Exhaustion and slowness

I think I fell asleep after every time I went to the bathroom or took a shower or walked around the house for a week after I got home. Your body has been through a major operation, and the best thing you can do for yourself is allow yourself to rest as much as your body wants to rest.

Re: Exhaustion and slowness

I have never been a person to take naps. But since surgery actually nap a couple times a day. Funny thing is I'm asleep almost as soon as my head hits the pillow....30 to 40 mins later I'm up and feeling tons better.
Rest and take it easy, if you are tired, lie down for a bit. You'll feel better for it.

Re: Exhaustion and slowness

Thank you ladies.

I also notice I sometimes get nausea or wobbly if I have been on my feet too long.

Re: Exhaustion and slowness

Oh yeah, that's totally normal. I still get tired.

Next week I'm slated back to work and I'm going to need to clean up my act ... shower, do hair & make-up & dress nice.

Oh how I'm gonna miss my nightgown & robe!

Re: Exhaustion and slowness

Hi Sharon - I am 6 weeks post op and still get exhausted - trying to have "normal" days but get wiped!! On the island here sister

Listen to your body. As others say - you only get once chance at recovery so do it right and listen to what your body is telling you.

Re: Exhaustion and slowness

Thanks ladies, I'm off my feet as we speak, its just hard to rest with pets and their needs. I'm on my own most of the time and I'm sure that isn't all that conducive but it is what it is.

Re: Exhaustion and slowness

OK I read that you are sweeping the floor. My doctor told me no sweeping for 6 weeks. My DH had to do it so it wasn't done as often as I would like it to have been done but oh well that's life. I have 3 cats and a long haired big dog so you can just imagine the fur in my house when the sweeping isn't kept up. I just decide to start naming the fur that floated on my floors. Each day when dh got home and ask how the day went I just told him about my new friends. Needless to say he would get to sweeping then.

Relax and let your body heal. The mess will survive.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.
