LSH: Anemia making me nervous

I got my date! I was all excited and then found out my hemoglobin has decreased despite prenatal vitamins and 325mcg iron twice daily. This may jeopardize my surgery. I have a constant dull headache and can hardly get out of the bed or my recliner! Just had a 13 day period and will have 1 or maybe even 2 more before my scheduled LSH 1/17/13. Getting really down!!! Talk about an emotional roller coaster!

I am so sorry about your anemia. I know it is very frustrating and depressing to be be dealing with this, and worrying about the surgery. Has your doc suggested anything else you can do to help?

My GYN is on vacation until Jan. 7th. His nurse gave me a list of iron rich foods and foods that help your body absorb iron. I am absolutely SICK of Cream of Wheat, I am lactose intolerant, plus I don't really eat a lot of meat and rarely eat red meat at all! I am already a green leafy veggie eater.

I am going to go to the walk in clinic to see my GP and see if she will give me some BC to manage my cycle until this is all over. She believes that after my LSH my hemoglobin will rise back to within normal levels. I have always been borderline anemic but with my long and heavy periods it has hit an all time low.

I am beyond frustrated!

Talk to your doctor about IV iron infusions. I have had them 2x a week since 11/2 and will need 6 more before I know if all is well. My Hemoglobin is at 12 right now after 12 infusions. I had to go on Lysteda for my last two months to make sure I didn't lose more iron. Ask about that too. Good luck to both of you. It's very frustrating but I am now feeling a bit better.
