One month post hysterectomy: Night sweats

debraid, to HysterSisters, and to our recovery forum!
I'm not sure about your hands smelling like salt, but perhaps I can help you with the night sweats. You didn't mention if you kept your ovaries, but if you did, they may have temporarily shut down because of reduced blood flow. If you're okay with eating soy, then 1-2 daily servings of tofu, edemame, or soy milk can help with hormonal balance. Also keep your bedroom temperature around 60-65°, choose loose fitting cotton nightclothes, and arrange your bedding in layers that can be added or removed as necessary. Also, our sleep cycles are mainly governed by exposure to natural light, so taking a daily walk outdoors can also help. Also, turn off all electronics at least an hour before bedtime, because they emit a bluish light that your brain interprets as daylight, and keep them out of your bedroom, so your brain regards it solely as a place for sleep and intimacy. Caffeine can linger in the body for 6-8 hours, so I always recommend a 2PM cuttoff. Spending the last hour before bedtime on relaxing activities, like listening to soft music, a little light reading, or a few minutes of meditation or deep breathing exercises, will tell the brain that it's time to rest. If you're awakened by a night sweat, and can't fall back asleep after 20 minutes, then get out of bed, go to another room, and do one of the aforementioned activities, which can help you to fall back asleep. Also be sure to join your recovery thread, where you can connect with your surgery week sisters, who may be dealing with similar issues. Here's hoping you'll get your soon!
