Hernia prevention? At 8 weeks post-op

A few days after my 6 weeks post-op, I started feeling increased pain on the lower left side after of all things getting up off the futon after watching TV. I had been resting. Anyway, after 10 days of increased pain and feeling very discouraged, I called the gyn who did not want to see me because it didn't sound surgery related. She wanted me to see the PCP. Frankly, I was really angry! It has to be due as a result of the surgery. I went to the fill-in PCP this morning because mine is on vacation for 3 weeks. She checked me out all over and nothing hurt at the time. I'm feeling sore now and like I need to protect that area. Anyway, she found no hernia YET. I have an outcropping which she said could develop into a hernia. She said give it 2 to 3 more weeks. No exercising, just walking and be careful. I guess that means no pushing the grocery carts. Has anyone ever heard of outcropping? Anyone know anything about hernia prevention?

My brother's lab had puppies. He wants to give me one which I really want. They were 6 weeks yesterday. I'm wondering if I should even think about taking that on? I think I could talk him into holding on to it till the 1st of November, but I don't want him to give up a chance to sell it if I decide I can't do it. Any thoughts?

Outcropping just means that you seem to have stressed an area that.....if aggravated again before the irritation subsides.....could easily become herniated. Hernia prevention includes refraining from lifting or pushing, or any quick and hard movements with the abdominal muscles.........the way we protect ourselves the first few weeks of recovery.

As for taking a new puppy.....well....that one is entirely up to you.

Take care........s....Deb

Wow, thanks Deb I didn't know what an outcropping was. Sounds like you need to take it even more easy than you have been. I still don't push the shopping cart.
OOOO a puppy.....labs are rambunctious aren't they? I don't know what to say about that. I don't know what I would do without my "baby". But he is a year old. He is a shi-tzu and he thinks he is still a puppy. He makes me so happy that he is my best medicine. Who would be there to help you with training? I did crate training and that is a big help with having to keep track of them every minute. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks for the reply. So sounds like given enough time, the area will strengthen which I kinda thought from what the dr said, but wondered if it would always be more vulnerable? Of course I thought of that later after I left the office. I have athletic boys who have damaged muscles in their ankles and the dr told them they should always wear ankle braces when they play because they never heal back 100%, always weaker. Will those outcroppings remain once healed?

I'm at 8 weeks post-op and have pushed a grocery cart only a few times and only a couple with a load. Those carts are crazy. I test them to see if they are "easy rollers" but some of them are only until you get stuff in them. Then they develop a mind of their own. Well, I won't be doing that for a long while now.

I would be doing crate training. I agree that that training helps so much. She could be rambunctious, I guess. The biggest physical problem would be getting her outside when she needed to go I think. We would put a baby gate at the kitchen for quite a while. And that room is next to the back yard. Other than that, just lots of love for the first months. We had to put our last dog down a couple of months before my surgery. It has been a while since we did the training thing and time erases the effort involved. So I guess I'm afraid of over doing it. I guess I need to find out how much she would weigh by say 4 months. They are so cute. I won't have help till evening. I have time for the initial puppy training, but that all changes next year so in some ways this is the most opportune time. I babble on. Thanks.
