Today was my pre-op

Wow it went so much smoother than I expected.

First I got weighed, and they asked my height. Then I answered 5,674 questions (im kidding) but it sure seemed like that many. It was all health related and a bit of family history. Then they took 2 small vials of my blood and that was it! All finished. The blood was for a hemogram (crit and globin) and a pregnancy test

I did receive a bunch of booklets, info packets, and the forms for a living will/power of attorney if I choose to fill them out. Morbid huh?
No EKG, no X-ray, no stress test and no urine specimen.
Not bad Took 30 minutes with the nurse and I was out of there. Too bad the wait was 90 min. lolol

I did find out that the reason I have to be at the hosp 3 hours before surgery is that they do a perineum shave , a betadine douche, more blood draws, IV, anesthesiologist consult, and possibly the catheter, but most likely the cath will be put in after I am in la-la land. After dealing with the humility of the shave.. they'd better not even ask about a cath while im still awake. lol

Pre-op was a breeze. Just thought I'd share that with the ladies who were worried or concerned with it.

Today was my pre-op

Thanks for the good report on the pre op. Mine was longer but still pretty easy.
I didn't get shaved and catheterized until after I was "out" right before surgery. I liked it better that way. I was awake for the betadine douche but I got to give it to myself - that was a BIG relief!

Today was my pre-op

I had my pre op today also, and mine was long, so many questions.. But thank God, they said I could come home and shave myself, and that was a relief.. So now tomorrow is the big day, and I'm so nervous right now, and my honey is at work. I sure could use a big hug from him right now.
I am so grateful for this site, it has been a wonderful support for me...

Good Luck with your surgery..

Thank you HoneyRose for posting about your post-op experience. It does help all of us LIW to know what goes on behind those secret doors of post-op-ville.

Mine isn't until next week and I have written down all of my questions for my dr. Most of them have been answered here online though, and I'm sure she will be quite surprised at how prepared I am for this surgery.

~hugs~
