Returning back to work doing heavy lifting- need advice
I didn't get cleared for lifting more than 20 lbs. until the 8-week mark, even though I had a LAVH (sort of). The initial stuff I had said 10 weeks, but she cleared me at about 8.5 weeks once my stitches were gone. Has he checked your stitches?

Returning back to work doing heavy lifting- need advice
My doctor checked my stitches and all of them have either passed or healed. I think because my doctor is at a military hospital she is more focused on getting soldier's back to work than making sure they may be completely ready for it.
It is really hard to get a modified work schedule when your doctor signs a medical release to work with no restrictions. I will not return to work until my 8th week and I hope to find another job without the heavy lifting and tons of driving.

9 Weeks post op today .. with back pain and tired
Today I am 9 weeks post op and I work for the airlines and I stand and walk all day and lift bags. I have had problems with my upper back every since I went back to work. Work my full 9 hours today and wore a back brace and it didnt work.
Not sure what to do .. guess Im gonna have to call my doc. And I still come home so tired. Some days are better than others depends on how well I sleep at night. And some nights I get good sleep and some night not very good. So I guess its just gonna still take some time. But I have no pain in my belly at all.
I think the back pain is from standing and walking all day. When I'm off on the weekend .. no pain... when I go shopping and stand and walk alot on my day off its back.
Any other suggestion? Back brace not helping. Did not work today!
Gotta go lay on the heating pad... :*( and rest for tomorrow.

Returning back to work doing heavy lifting- need advice
kclark. . .I have always had terrible back pain, but, it got worse after surgery. I am not as far along as you, but have you considered getting a homedics shiatsu massager for your back? It has heat, and really it saved my life. My DH brought it home for me, and I swear I was on that thing for nearly two hours (don't really recommend that). Also, massage therapy, deep tissue massage. First time I went was last week, and the day after I was so sore, but the day after that, I was a new woman!
Also, boost your iron, vitamin D, and I would highly recommend an MSM cream to rub on your back, and Celadrin capsules (essential fatty acids).
I would call your doctor though, there is only so much you can do at home, and you may need restrictions put on you so that you can heal. Everyone is different.
Good luck, I feel for you.

Update
Just wanted to give all you wonderful Hyster Sisters an update on the work situation.
I talked to my manager and I am so blessed to say he doesn't want me to injure myself by doing to much to soon. I have help for my first week out and if I find the lifting of 30lbs and up is really a problem then just let him know.
I think sometimes it's easy to worry about the small stuff instead of trusting God to work the details out. So now I have no worry's about working because I feel very supported by my job. Oh yes and this is a male manager too! Hooray for support everywhere we can get it.
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions-
Ces
