Re: What was your experience

Afternoon ScaredyCat

What was your SAH procedure like?

It was honestly not as bad as I had worried about. Took around 90 minutes and when I came round was suprised how "good" I felt considering. Once the anesthetic wore off it was a lot better.

Where or how were you cut?

Had a very very low bikini cut (I told the doctor this was very important to me), and same as xeres I had no visible stiches on the outside. No glue and no staples (didn't even know this was possible), the surgeon should have gone into plastic surgery as I have never seen such neat work. I am 5 months out and can barely see anything but a red "cat scratch".

Bandages came off at 24 hours and that was that, wasn't even recovered with thin bandage, the hospital believes air heals faster (as long as no visible weeping).

This was a big worry for me as vanity wise I didn't want a huge scar.

How long were you in the hospital?

I was in 3 days, doctor said I could leave after 2 as was walking around 10 hours post surgery but it was such a nice quiet hospital the nurses asked me if I would prefer an extra night just to make sure (food was good

Will it be hard to move in and out of the bed/lounge/couch?

Honestly the first time out of bed I thought OMG I can't do this, I then took a 10 minute break and after that it was fine. As long as I used the technique they showed me (roll to side etc) it was fine and actually slept on my side in the first week. Worst "pain" was laughing or sneezing

Did you receive or purchase the belly binder?

I purchased something like it on line but its actually still in the box

Additional Info

I do still get a bit of swelly belly but was back in normal clothes straight away. I drove and went back to work at 4 weeks (my choice as was going crazy at home) and was back on my snowboard at 9 weeks. I know its different for everyone but just wanted to add a positive recovery.

Good luck and hope this helps a little preparing for the big day.

Re: What was your experience

Thank you for sharing. I am not going to be totally alone but a 9yo son who is on summer vacation (yea Im alone) has me a little worried. I don't want FI to change his work schedule for me and I have friends who say they are going to check on me, but I hate bothering folk. So I guess I am anxious for the fact that I will be a bother.
