SAH: As the day approaches getting nervous

Hello all,

I am less than five days away from surgery. Nervous about recovery time (fixing hernia at same time). Worry about being able to exercise again ... Will I be able to achieve a flat tummy again (just turned 50). Will I get my strength back in my abdominal area.

Any positive feedback would be great!!

I totally understand your concerns. I am a few years away from 50 and finding it harder to keep that body. I am only 3weeks post op however I have already lost 5 lbs and my stomach is flat. Once they took the boggy uterus out it made a huge difference not to mention that my body isn't so swollen anymore. I now have the incentive to get back on an exercise regime.

Just waiting to get the go ahead from the doctor.

I had a slightly less complicated surgery than you in that I didn't have a hernia. However, I found I had no trouble in regaining abdominal strength after surgery. I was able to start doing *gentle* abdominal exercises at about three weeks and to ease back into my regular exercise routines at six.

At 4+ months out, I'm still getting some "swelly belly" (swelling in the abdominal muscles) in the evenings, but otherwise life is good. :-)

PS I'm 55.
