Anyone else still needing pain meds at 3 weeks post hysterectomy?

I had a TAH leaving my right ovary to fend for itself on march 27 th . I also had a lap surgery for scar tissue removal and uterine oblation on jan 6 th 2014.
Now I know it took me a while to recover from the lap surgery but I was able to do so without a lot of pain meds. I have fibromyalgia and I was very uncomfortable but not in severe pain with the exception of the lower left pain I was previously experiencing on and off for years, which did get worse hence the TAH on March 27th.
I am still in need of Percocet ( at least 4 in 24 hours)
I started with 2 every 4 hours and have weened my way down to 4/ 5 a day the past few days. I tried to go all day today (10 hours) without one and just take the Advil but I can't do it. The spasms start getting worse and I think I can feel every stitch inside me. I can feel my angry bladder and it kills me when I need to empty it. It just aches everywhere!
I would say I have a decent pain tolerance given the fibro for years and I hate popping tylonol for even a headache
Am I alone in still needing percs? I know my body is angry and traumatized from the past few months, sigh but I'm sick of popping pills!

Re: Anyone else still needing pain meds at 3 weeks post hysterectomy?

I am 4 weeks out and take a small amount of ibuprofen and one norco at night. I would be taking more if not for liver issue. With fibro - I don't think you can compare yourself to anyone else (well none of is should anyway). A very good friend of mine has FM and she thinks I have it. But even if I do, it is no where near how bad she has it. She suffers a lot WITHOUT surgery. And from everything I read surgery usually causes major flares.

Don't feel bad. Just test it out once in a while like you did today and try to alternate with OTC when you're up to it so you can slowly wean off the Percocet. But don't judge yourself! You are doing the best you can and we are all different!!!

Re: Anyone else still needing pain meds at 3 weeks post hysterectomy?

Everyone is different. My pain tolerance is usually low. I only take Tylenol. Usually at the end of the day. My bladder screams at me too. I find drinking a bit more, try to urinate before you really have to. A very full bladder makes it worse for me.

I took no meds other than tylenol after day 2. They only made me sick and then throwing up hurt my incision.
Ask your doctor what he/she thinks. I would think after week 3 you would be starting to trim down. But we all have different pain levels.

I took them till week 4 and now just once in while at night if I have pain.( I had some left over) I suffer from myofascial pain syndrome, so this process is taking a little longer.

Re: Anyone else still needing pain meds at 3 weeks post hysterectomy?

I am now at 3 weeks and I feel like I can take on the world when I get up in the morning but then I find if I do to much I'm still achey and sore and need to stop and take my pain meds as well as rest. You just may need to slowdown a bit more it seems to me your body may be going througha bit more then the next person.... Hang in there rest and take it one day at a time and keep your doctor posted that's whatwe pay them for....

Re: Anyone else still needing pain meds at 3 weeks post hysterectomy?

I had to take pain meds till week five. Some pain is normal, and don't kid youself and think it isn't. You are not weak for taking them as long as you still hurt. I stopped, went back to Dr and found out that some of mine was nerve pain and neurotin helped me the most. I also had a small place that hadn't healed. Your pain will get better!
